@Loanranger21I have bought some nice things on etsy so I'll have a look.@Spikeygran I'm relieved that they didn't find anything obviously untoward. No real flying done here again today - just washing up and I emptied the bin and took the bag down to the bins. The place looks a mess so tomorrow I'm determined to start on sorting things out.On Saturday an 85 year old friend (the one who forgot we were taking her for coffee and pastries recently) rang to invite us to join her and her family at her birthday lunch next week. It's being organised by her daughter and she wasn't sure which restaurant it would be at. I had to say that it needed to be wheelchair accessible and with accessible lavs (so many restaurants fail on one or both). She said she will ensure that it's somewhere A can go to. I know most of her family (although not well) but these days am not keen on large groups and A doesn't like eating out at all, and in any event normally has a nap in the early afternoon so I'm not really looking forward to it.9

Thanks for lists.
After overnight rain - much needed - on Saturday and a bit on Sunday, it was ok today which was a relief as it was the parish 'walking the boundaries'. This is a very old tradition which we haven't formally done before, but the vicar is trying to organise a whole summer of 'open church' activities. Mr N and I volunteered to be back markers if anyone got lost, but actually there were about 15 of us and we were always within sight of each other. Our parish boundary is too long to do in total, so we started in the village and went first to the western point then the eastern. Interesting features were short talks by the county High Sheriff (on what his job entails, and the history of 'beating the bounds'), the vicar (on the meaning of Rogationtide and a few prayers for fruitful harvest) and the parish clerk (on the re-wilding of a piece of village land and how after only a year, 12 new plants have appeared). Then we had coffee and cake in a field.
After a rest, and lunch, Mr N and I did as much gardening as we could to make the front and a bit of the back look 'reasonable' as tomorrow evening the church group is meeting at our house and at least one wants to walk round the garden. Others will want to park/walk down the drive without driving through shrubbery, so we did a lot of pruning and the drive is now about a metre wider!!
We have been compiling a photobook of our Netherlands trip - or at least, Mr N has done most of it as he knows more than I about setting out photos. All done and sent off for printing; sadly it won't be back in time to take and show mum and BIL when we visit at the weekend.
Wrote 2 birthday cards, posted 1; the other is in my gym bag ready to take to swim buddy tomorrow. Eek it is almost tomorrow as I'm typing this.
As I usually aim to swim by 9.30 then go to work till about 4.30-5 on a Tuesday, I have already weighed out the ingredients for a cake to make before I go out tomorrow (which included washing up the food mixer as I'd used it to make a crumble for dinner). I'm a bit anxious as, although it is my never-fail chocolate cake recipe, I'm using the gf flour I bought in the Netherlands and it is called 'universal' rather than self-raising, so I added a teaspoon of baking powder to be sure........ Plan is to make the cake, swim but have only a brief coffee with the girls, get to work early so I can leave early (I have to remind myself I'm only a volunteer so they won't mind!), drop in at C00p for more milk and cooking marg, ice the morning cake, make some raspberry friandes (as I have some egg whites needing to be used) then have a bit of a fly. I'm sure Mr N will fly anyway in the morning and it isn't bad anywhere.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.6 -
The very old masking tape, which I thought might be a bit of a nightmare to take off, peeled off without too much trouble on the bits where I'd managed to do two coats yesterday. Very relieved. I finished both rolls of it which have been hanging around for at least 20 years if not longer so that's a bit of decluttering achieved. I started the roll of frogtape that's been around for a very, very long time which is lovely stuff to work with so if that's ever used up and I need more of either I'm going to go with the froggie stuff. I've got dental and optician appointments this afternoon so I'm hoping to get at least one coat on the reverse sides before I have to go out. It's raining and will be for the rest of the day so dog walking will be a soggy affair. We need the rain so badly I'm just relieved it's happening, and I remembered to fill up all the watering cans from the waterbutt last night so that'll stand us in good stead over the next few days. And I can now reseed some of the bald patches on the grass now that the grounds had a good soaking and then cover them with fleece so the pigeons don't nick all the seeds but the light can get through.Better is good enough.4

Morning all,It’s just started mizzling here. We haven’t so far had enough rain to make any real difference, certaonly not enogh to fill the water butts, today might be the day.
I have stripped the bed and run the wm. Bed has been remade, hair washed and tamed, so now I can set to with cleaning the bedroom and the bathroom.
Narc0 - beating the bounds was a regular thing here until a few years ago. The neighbouring village still walks their boundary and has a really good turn out. Our boundary is very long, the first part is on a dangerous road that nobody seems to like the speed limit of, the second part (conveniently timed to be after a picnic stop) is through woods and across fields. I doubt that there are many living here now who remember either the walks or the boundary. We had a real issue with landowners agreeing to open gates (not all the boundary falls on public paths) and then locking them up if we weren’t through by an unrealistic time. There was talk about reviving the walk (or at least the second half) but most village incomers sadly don’t appear interested in keeping these old traditions alive.Right, off my soap box now to wield the duster….6 -
Dog walked, first coat on the second side of the various bits of mini greenhouse I can fit in the shower room. Now resting before lunch and then the opticians. The dentist has had to cancel today's appointment but has fitted me in tomorrow which means two journeys to that particular town but he's a wonderful dentist so it's worthwhile, although the opticians appointment was booked specially to co-incide with the dental one!I need to go to a particular shop in that town to ask their advice for which chemical will work best on the water-damaged table so it's well worth going there.Washing up done and a bit of vacuuming.Better is good enough.5

I managed to do the usual kitchen, DW and washing done, and washed down the bath, tiles and shower screen. Though I still have a few things to FUPA.Did some more in the garden, filled up some 2 litre water bottles from the rain overflow, its handy to have a bit of spare. Cleaned out the pond filters and just ordered a new set. We now have 7 full waterbutts after the rain over the weekend. I think they said it was 70 years since the last longest run of hot weater in scotland.I've got some 🐸 's lurking. I still haven't planted that garlic, repotted the kitchen plants, the extractor hood is still mucky and my quilt cover needs ironing. Its lovely egyptian cotton but waffle on one side, it has to be beaten into submission. I bought 2 from Freemans years ago and got fed up with ironing and bought other sets. I got them back out last year, still in perfect condition, still a pain to iron. But they are so nice to sleep under. I have more time now (retired) so making the effort.Loving the mad half hours. Stopping is my problem though. I call it the wet cloth problem. I will keep finding dirtier jobs while I have it in my hand. I've been known to start with the top of the fridge, work through the cat flaps and end up wiping down stuff outside.

Morning all,
I managed to tick off most of today’s list yesterday, plus the stairs from today’s list. I made the 2 cards for next month’s birthdays.
Today started sunny but still oh so windy. It has now clouded over, but I am considering an attempt to get to the allotment soonish or some of these plants will never get the chance to feed us. Wm is just finishing, but I fear that pegging out will result in lost clothes, so the airer it is. It can go outside if the wind ever drops.
I have HH admin to do from yesterday, but DH has been hogging the laptop and the office. Also on my list is HHI. DH has gone to the market already, which should mean that I can postpone a Mr M delivery for this week. Every little helps, or so I’ve heard.5 -
Morning all. After a mentally tiring day yesterday with W, I have slept longer than for any other night in the past week and consequently have a clear head this morning.
Things that I'd like to to do today - in addition to the dailies, of course:
- check statistics for the meeting later and submit in advance via email
- order meds
- check finances, look for a tax certificate for one savings account, and remember to pay J the gardener who came yesterday between the heavy showers and did almost all the jobs I'd asked him to do (fortunately I am capable of doing the one job from my list that he forgot)
- phone DS1 and DD
- check rail tickets for our holiday
- email at least 3 people off my long list
- make up the spare bed
- go to the meeting, in our town centre
- do a top-up shop and at the same time get rid of the bags of soft plastic that are floating round the back seat of my car
- take delivery of my curtain material (excellent service!)
- adjust and sew the hems of two pairs of my trousers
- start transferring digital photos to an external hard drive
That's probably enough excitement for one day!
(((Hugs))), spoons and sticks all round as needed xxx6
