ionafan said:My apologies, YL - I meant to send congratulations to your DH too. Remember that if you are both out all day the house will stay tidy!
And HB yes I think asking around for recommendations for a dog walker is a good plan.
Upstairs dusted, tidied and hoovered. Finance spreadsheets updated. WM on. I am going to hoover the car - a job I hate but it's disgusting. Then maybe a bit of weeding, we will see.
Hope your day gets better Valli x6 -
Woohoo. I'm now off work for almost two weeks. It took two hours between work shifts today to sort car insurance. Parcel is now ready to send tomorrow. And that has been it.
We have a family video call shortly to discuss wedding stuff and someone is due round to pick some thing up. Also need to fit in eating and dog walking.
Calendar is absolutely chokka for the next week!Spend less now, work less later.6 -
Hope you get some replacement plants @kazwookie In had some pears recently that had some large brown spots on them - suggesting that they were past their best. I sent an online message to WR and they refunded me. It wasn't a fortune of course but every little helps, as they say.Well, I've had quite a productive day. This morning, after helping A put his foot brace on I wrote a card to our elderly friend in Plymouth and another to my friend in Machester and then went out and posted them and took down a bag of recycling and bought the paper. When I got back I put the first of two loads of washing on, which has now finished and is part way through drying. We have two friends coming for lunch on Sunday and one is having a belated 80th birthday celebration (the one A was at school with) and we're pulling all the stops so. I cleaned the decanters and A sat and polished the cutlery, after which I washed and dried it, so that's two little jobs done well in advance. Another small grocery delivery came and I put the things away. I then had a big tidy round in the sitting/dining room and put several things away that didn't need to be in there and threw other things away and then had a good vac. During this A had 3 calls with the hospital which required me to be on hand to assist.I'd just sat down for a rest and my brother rang, with some family news, but calls with him are always long and he was still chatting away when A started to signal that he wanted to go for his stair exercise. After that A went for a lie down and I had half an hour for myself. He's just got up though and wants his supper!6

I've only really skim read - don't ask me what I've been doing this week but it seems to have gone by fast.
Congrats to Mr YL, that must be a relief and a new chapter in life with all the adjustments we need to make along the way.
You sound to be doing a great caring job CofG.
Hugs etc to all as I can't remember what else I wanted to comment on. Only that it's certainly worth complaining when necessary - I got home from Mr L last week to find 2 of the pack of peppers were mouldy; I took a photo and sent them to head office and was impressed to receive a voucher on my loyalty card within a day, worth more than the whole pack of 5 cost.
We are off to Dorset tomorrow so I've just done rather hasty flower arrangements for SIL (we are staying there overnight to break the journey) and Mum. Had planned to do it tomorrow but I've got a swimming lesson then have to check flowers and vacuum the church, not to mention pack, so I'm going to run out of time. I'm always anxious the night before we visit Mum, so I may as well get a few chores done late, hence the flowers and I will also input solar panel meter reading plus email a friend. That should all send me to sleep. Oh, and download some books onto Kindle while I'm on the PC.
We had the disappointing news this week that the Christian College where I do voluntary work is moving location. Not sure where yet although I can guarantee that it will be further than my 10min commute; in about 18months time. It's a pity as we are currently on a beautiful site which feels very spiritual and would be pushed to match that. However I'm not very stressed as I'll be 18months older then and it is only voluntary, although I like it and relish the atmosphere.
Right, midnight+ chores are waiting.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.7 -
Thanks Narco. I get stresed by it but I think that anyone would.Hope you get your chores done Narco and your visit to Doret goes well. After supper I WUPA everything and then made some meringues for Sunday whilst A was having a nap. I almost didn't as I was tired but forced myself and I'm pleased that I did. When A woke up he said my meringues won't be as good as M&S's. They might not be but it's more satisfying to make something rather than just buy it. I hope that they're fab just to prove him wrong.7

How exciting Jazee! I hope the whole two weeks is a festival of fun and everyone thoroughly enjoys the whole thing.Caring is always tough, CoG, and you put a lotof time and effort into it. I loathe shop bought meringues because they're always so dry, like eating well set crispy dust. I make my own because they're chewy and have a kind of flavour I like, unlike the industrial ones. I hope your lunch goes well.Lunch with my elderly neighbour was a success. She talks about the past and her family A Lot so after three hours I'm exhausted but it gave her the opportunity to download about the things that are distressing her; she's both pragmatic and a realist so conversations about difficult subjects are fairly straightforward. She doesn't dwell on things, which is unusual in her circumstances. She chose somewhere very close by, and the food and service were excellent. We both like supporting local businesses and we hadn't been back there for years - it's improved now they've found their niche and aren't trying to capture the whole market. Expensive in comparison to other places but well worth what they charged and I know she really enjoyed it, which is what it was all about.I'm going to bite the bullet and French polish the water damaged table, but first I'm going to practice on another table that is also damaged and we've had to put a tablecloth on for years. It was Belovéd's mother's and I love it but he's not as attached to it as he used to be so I can learn while I restore it. Win:win. It's yet another job to add to the never-ending list but it's something I actually want to do now that I've accepted it has to be done.Today's task is to do some serious 'lawn' repair now that both sets of scaffolding have been removed and the damage done to the grass has been fully revealed. There's also a lot of damage in areas where the grass grew well, fell over and was mowed flat this week. There's thatch everywhere and a huge problem under the cherry tree by some roots that's quite extensive. I've asked Belovéd for help with this because I most certainly didn't cause this damage and no-one else will think of doing anything about it but the neighbours, who never do anything to help in the garden, would make 'comments'. I'm not happy about it, so if I can rope him in he'll be a lot less blasé about some of his choices in the future. We can hope.I have two more panels to start on for the greenhouse which I hope to get completed this weekend, but I may be being over-ambitious and unrealistic about my capabilities energy-wise over that. It is dragging on a bit.Better is good enough.6

Morning all xx
It's weeeeekeeeennnd. 👋 to iona 😘
How would I sum up my week: chaos, cat visiting, and creative writing. That's it in a nutshell.
And now tis Saturday. My Saturdailies are almost finished - pots are soaking as I type. I'm having a coffee break.
Last Saturday I had sooooo much to remember going on in my head that I sat down with pencil (not pen) and paper. Mapped out Saturday and the rest of the week and crossed things off as I went. The only things I've brought forward today were measure gradation photo, empty shredder and meal plan. Not a lot of flying done but bills paid, cat fed and I didn't have to remember not to forget anything as it was all written down.
I'm going shopping for a photo frame this afternoon so I'll measure the photo before I go. And cross off, seeing as I've put pencil to paper again this morning and written a new list this morning. I'm thinking A4 suits me more than A5 ever did. Every day's a school day.
Sending love to all.

Hello all.
Busy morning. Before getting washed and dressed I had cleaned all the mirrors and glass in the house and dusted any other dusty bits while I was in the rooms. Took Poppet for a walk, parcels to PO and met with friends for a cuppa. One wash load is almost dry on the line and dailies are done. More stuff sorted out for wedding. Some weeding done.I bought DH some flowers. Why do we rarely get flowers for men?
Wordle in five. I'm off out again shortly for the afternoon to do sporty stuff and intend to sit in the garden and read when I get back. Oh, except Poppet will want another walk!Spend less now, work less later.7 -

I realised we were both cream-crackered so suggested we went out for breakfast and gave ourselves a bit of a talking to about trying to do too much, resulting in not enjoying anything. It worked. We took Wren with us as part of her training for this year's goal: By Christmas she must be able to go to the pub and settle quietly under the table so we can enjoy the experience. Progress made on that one, at last, although we also discovered that while she's still got the hang of 'Sit', she's forgotten 'Down'. She's very food orientated so we'll sort that little bit out this week.I've done another coat on 10 panels/bits of the greenhouse so by the time I've finished some bits will have had three coats, some two and a very few bits one. It's the best I can do.Belovéd is doing the stuff in the garden that I simply don't have the energy to tackle. As he's the underlying cause because he decided it's okay to only get it mown once every four weeks I'm fine with that. Not in peak growing season it isn't. I caught him pruning the apple tree again *sigh* so I've explained, yet again, why that's harming the tree, but once he gets the loppers in his hand all reason goes out the window. It's like lighting fires - everyone loves doing it regardless of how often you squawk about hedgehogs etc.I'm making some homemade Trail Mix but have now discovered what I thought were tiny figs are chestnuts (pack bought in France, so I should have checked before opening it), so I better put those to one side because I don't think they'll do the batch any favours. Then I'm going to do a couple of hours at my desk now, clearing some paperwork backlog which has built up this week.Better is good enough.6
