Well done to your DH YSL. Can your old pooch become an office dog. Our offices are full of dogs, all with their own beds and all because the big boss got a dog during lockdown then didn't want to leave her at home.
Flying has been minimal. There have been other pulls on my time as the wedding is only a week away for DS. Still need to make some adjustments to our outfits. Other priorities are sorting out car insurance tomorrow as it's the magic 26 days before renewal and sending off parcels people are waiting for.Spend less now, work less later.4 -
@Valli too late for your sofas but have you ever tried Tiptapp? https://tiptapp.com/en/homeWell done YL on not getting involved with work during your AL,This morning I couldn't do any flying as I had three deliveries coming and it wasn't worth starting anything as I knew I would be interrupted.
. Deliveries all arrived and opened and checked I made lunch and afterwards helped A to get his foot brace on and then accompanied him on his stair walk. An Amazon delivery arrived and the driver said he would bring it up but didn't so I had to go down and collect it. It was probably a good thing as there was a parcel with two cheese knives I'd bought on ebay and have been waiting ages for, plus a couple of other bits of post, one of which was the polyester arm caps I'd bought on Amazon - they are vile.
Apart from one, all the caps on Etsy are for sofas and wouldn't fit our armchair. One person does them made to meaure but in faux leather, which I don't want. I sent her a message to ask if he could make them in another material but she said no. I've now sent an email to someone who did some chair restoration for us a while back, incluing a new seat cover on one chair, to see if his company will make us a set.
After that I finally got my flying act together and cleaned the kitchen and emptied the bin and took down the bag of rubbish, a bag of recycling and two large cardboard boxes that I filled with other things for recycling. I was very pleased to see the back of them. Two were for electrical goods we'd bought and I usually keep the boxes for a short while in case the item is faulty and needs to go back. I'd hoped to tidy and vac the sitting/dining room but it was after 5.30 and quite warm by then and I was a bit tired so I called it a day on the flying front. It was soon time to make supper anyway.A wanted to try out the CPAP machine for an hour before he formally goes to bed so I helped him to remove hs foot brace and undress and put the mask on. As I was doing so another Amazon delivery came (something I'd ordered earlier on same-day delivery but had forgotten about). Fortunately he did bring it up. Once A was settled I washed up an then checked on him and noticed he was asleep (I think) but not breathing. At that moment the machine started to pump out air much faster before slowing again, so it's doing its job. I've now got 20 minutes free time before I have to wake him to get ready for bed. Perhaps I'll read the complete works of Shakespeare.Sorry for waffling on as usual.

Morning
I love your updates CofG, you write so well. It's so annoying about the arm caps. My mum found a retired seamstress who covered a chair for her beautifully but she is very particular about the work she takes on and wouldn't shorten the belt on my wool coat, even though in my mind it was much less difficult!
A day at home today I think, 3 days left before I am back to the paid stuff. I want to do some home admin, update our finance spreadsheets, get the laundry up to date and gently potter. I might go out for a walk later if the weather is nice.
Jazee if our old boy had been younger he would have loved being an office dog, but he is at least 15 (a rescue so we are not 100% sure) and his eyesight isn't great. I feel a bit stressed about all this, DH has even suggested that he could drop him off at my parents on his way to work but that means a lot of car journeys for the dog and Mum and Dad would feel obliged to be up early which isnt fair on them. There is a dog walker in the next village who advertises on FB so that might be an option.

Huge congratulations for your DH getting the job, and you for not responding to the work message while you were on holibobs YL. We have a wonderful dog walker I found through her card at the vet's surgery, and she's been really good with each individual dog we've had. The current one loves every dog she meets so she goes on group walks; all the other dogs had to be walked on their own and L has been very good at accommodating each of their needs. (She also takes dogs for home-boarding so before we book any trip away we have to check she can take the dog, and she's often booked up months in advance.) I hope you find one that's just as good, and there are some excellent ones out there. Is there anyone who could give you a recommendation?I didn't realise there was a wedding in the offing Jazee. Congratulations and I hope the stress levels are manageable and everyone enjoys the day.I was too tired to do the second coat on the second sides yesterday so I'll walk the dog and do the second coat before I go out to lunch with our elderly neighbour. Her daughter, who lives a distance away, has breast cancer and is going through chemo with radiotherapy to look forward to after that. There's absolutely nothing i can do to make that better for our neighbour, is there, other than be there for her. I know the daughter and have done for 30 years but I'm much closer to her mother.Better is good enough.6

Than you YL - that's very kind.Yes, it difficult to find people to do small jobs. If I wanted the whole chair recovered it would be easy. It's like finding someone to do a small electrical or plumbing job - that can be very difficult, although fortuntely we found someone a few years ago who fitted a new bathroom for us, and then we were 'on his books' so he willing to come round and do wahtever we need, and he is multi-skilled. I forgot to say in my self-obsessed post yesterday, congratulations to DH on getting the job. I hope he thrives there.@Honey_Bear your neighbour will take a lot of strength from your support - especially as she has known you for such a long time. I hope that you can both enjoy the lunch, despite her inevitable worries.I woke up with a headache for the second day running. Yesterday it went off once I'd got going; hopefully it will today too. It's already starting to feel warm so I{ need to get on with tidiying and vaccing the sirtting dining room, which is my main flying task. I alo aim to do a couple of loads of washing. I'll report back later. Hope everyone has a good day.6

Well done to your DH, YL. We also had office dogs at work, 4 of them, but never all 4 at once as they could cause mayhem in a pack! There was the memorable day when the old dog decided that it would be really good fun to start howling when the phone rang…he had never done it before, it took some explaining to some customers! Our NDN’s also have a good local dogwalker who looks after their dog if they go away without her. Hopefully you can find someone like that.
I hope the big day goes well, Jazee.
Hugs, HB x
I am off out soon to visit the old workplace, via Mr T to get them some cake, and then petrol if I need it. I managed to claim the office for enough time to tick off some admin yesterday. DH is back ensconced there today and has promised that today is the day to clean it. We shall see. When I get back, I intend - no promises - to fly downstairs in the LR and DR, to save having that job lingering over the weekend.7 -
Morning all. I'm playing catch-up today.
DS1&Co didn't come here for a meal yesterday as DGD2 brought back a nasty respiratory virus from Spain - not caused by any Spanish bugs, though: one girl had been ill before they left but insisted on going on the trip because it was expensive, and as a result everyone else who sat on the 24-hour coach journey with her caught it too. Not good for a choir giving open-air concerts! DGD realised that my DH is very susceptible to such viruses and very thoughtfully offered to stay at home, which would have meant DDiL1 not coming either, but we compromised with me taking the promised cakes to their house and sitting with the family in the garden for an hour. DGD2 kept well away from everyone elseIt was social distancing all over again
Anyway, she is on the mend, and I re-arranged for them all to come to us for a meal on 15th, which is the day before we go on holiday, so they will be able to take any perishable food home with them.
Today I must
- make 5 phonecalls
- start doing the trouser alterations
- go to a wedding at 3pm (just the church - the young couple are regular members of our congregation)
- book some tickets
- make the 'broken lasagne' for tonight's meal.
No time like the present to start! Hope everyone has a good day (and don't forget it's the weekend tomorrow, round!)
