morning all
went to work yesterday to clear the backlog from my being absent. I took a couple of minutes to look for a man with a van to take my old sofas away next week and, having been shocked at the price i looked at the council site…they can do it MUCH cheaper, will also take the carpet and are booked for the very day I need! Paid online, job done!

Hi all. Lovely few days with my brother hiking and enjoying the moors and coast. Today we took my parents out for a short stroll on the beach which is always a bit of a challenge because Dad's mobility isn't great so parking/toilets/refreshments have to be easily accessible. I think everyone enjoyed it.
I have just got home and received a message to say that there has been a problem at work. This really isn't anything to do with the person who messaged but they had heard about it and thought I would want to know. No, I didn't want to know, I am on annual leave. Sigh. No-one is in the office until morning so I just have to assume that it is being dealt with.
Minimal flying achieved here, waiting for DH to get in from work to decide on dinner.6 -
Yesterday's trip to the other town wasn't wasted, but in fitting the lens into my specs - the lens broke across the middle. So I didn't get either of the things done I'd intended but it's such a great little town full of independent shops I managed to get quite a bit of shopping done that needed to be done.Went back today and the dentist repaired the tooth that needed it, and spotted another one that needed to be fixed next to it so he did that as well. Very chuffed with that as it means only one lot of jabs covered the whole area.Thence to physio somewhere else completely because I've got a knee that's not quite right, and in 40 minutes she made the diagnosis, massaged the area, gave me some ultrasound treatment, acupuncture, and strapped it, recommended an exercise, and advice on how to manage it. She is very, very good, as is the dentist and the opticians, despite the glitch yesterday. I think we're very lucky here with health care professionals who are allowed to take the time to do their job properly. I wish the NHS were funded enough for all health care professionals to do so.I also popped in to my absolutely favourite clothes shop of all time, and she's got a half price sale about to go live online, so she let me have a 50% discount on everything I wanted to buy. Amazing.I managed to get the second coat on the second side of 11 of the 13 pieces of the mini-greenhouse, and realised I also needed to put wood preservative on the knobs and a little tiny piece that came in a separate little bag so I've started them as well. I've got anothe two panels to do because of lack of space in the shower room so I'll start them tomorrow after volunteering, and they can all have their second coat on Friday, when I'll also touch up anything that I may have missed first or second time around. Then back to repotting and potting up on the sundeck, reseeding the bald bits on the grass at the front and I'll have caught up on the urgent jobs.I just hope nothing gets added to the list by anyone else.Better is good enough.5

This morning I had 3 deliveries/collections: Waitrose, some wine and then I Hate Ironing, for the shirts. After that it was nearly 12 but we both needed a hair cut and tomorrow I've some more deliveries coming, one of which can come any time betwen 07.00 (
) and 20.00. Another can come any time between 08.00 and 20.00 and two others, I've no idea when they will come, so I might have to stay in the whole day. Consequently we decided to go today even though we couldn't set off until just before noon. We normally go around 09.30 when it's nearly always quiet but today, being later I suppose, it was busy and we had to wait for quite a while. Anyway, we both came out looking much smarter than when we went in.
Moan number 1. I've always had a lot of hair but a couple of years ago I noticed that more than usual was being caught in the trap when I wash it. Althouth I still have hair all over my scalp, I can see that it is much thinner. I've been rubbing rosemary oil into my scalp each evening and using rosemary oil shampoo but I fear it's not stemming the tide. I really don't want to go bald, especially as I managed to get to my early 60s with a full head of hair, and it's not even grey apart from the sides. I wonder if it's stress, or maybe it's just becasue I'm getting older. Either way it sucks, as they say.Moan number 2. I know that I've been putting on weight in the last 18 months or so and weighed myself 3 weeks ago and it wasn't a pleasant surprise. I weighed myself again this morning and I was 2 kilos (4.5 pounds) heavier! I'm now embarked on a diet as I really want to get this excess weight off whilst it's still a manageable amount. I also need to try to increase my protein intake as I eat very little meat (althouth I do eat fish a couple of times per week). Its quite difficult to get enough from plant-based or dairy sources though so I'm thinking of taking a supplement to top up what I'm getting from my food.Flying-wise, not much I'm afraid: I ironed the napkins for our lunch guests on Sunday and also pressed apair of trousers. I also cleaned the bathroom basin and mirror and the lav, put the shopping away and washed up.Hope everyone's having a good day.

Morning all.
Well done YL for not rushing back to work. Shame on your colleague who disturbed your holiday.
I did quite well yesterday and crossed 12 things off my list (which included a couple of things I hadn't put on the original). Carried over to today:
- check rail tickets for our holiday
- email/phone 4 people off my not-quite-as-long-as-it-was list
- adjust and sew the hems of two pairs of my trousers
- start transferring digital photos to an external hard drive
Add to that:
- dailies plus dusting
- WMx2
- bake cakes for DC, KWM, J and L (and try not to eat any of them myself, including licking out the bowls!)
- prep a meal for tonight for us and DS1&Co: 1x vegan, 1x veggie (who is happy to eat vegan) and 4x omnivores
- book concert tickets
My curtain fabric arrived yesterday, and I am very pleased with both the material and the service I received. The owners of the warehouse are retiring and selling off all their stock at moneysaving prices, so if anyone wants their details, just PM me.
I wonder how many cakes I can make before DH emerges to get breakfast?
Will catch up with the thread later - hope you all have a good day xxx5 -
YL…I might have pointed out I was on AL had I received that text! Overstepping boundaries there.
Mums obituary has gone live.
Did some tidying yesterday when I got back from work, pegged out washing as it was sunny and broke the back of the ironing pile.
Meeting friend’s hubby for coffee today. Friend not well and has been in hospital for weeks. She has missed all the drama in my life but is not able to support me in any way.

Afternoon all,
Ditto what Iona said, YL. Also meant to wish your DH good luck with the job application. No matter what the newspapers like to try to tell us, getting a job especially as you get older, gets a lot harder.
CoG - never ever think that you’re not doing much. Apart from the fact that you do way more on the flying front than I do, you do so much more for A and others as well.
I have done my couple of hours planting and watering at the allotment. I lugged a few buckets of manure and compost around, but the perceived effort doesn’t seem to have been rewarded by step count. Wm is now running, washing will be double pegged outside to dry in the strong wind.
DH is hogging the office - again. If that’s the case, he can also clean in there 😈.
Not sure what the afternoon plan is. Maybe finish my sewing while catching up with podcasts.5 -
Did a lot of small jobs that needed to be done urgently before I volunteered. Then went to Mr L for more compost and few other things may have fallen into my trolley. Lunch scoffed, washed up and dog food measured out. I'm delighted to say she's losing weight at last and seems to be perfectly happy with what we're feeding her. I should get her weighed again just to make sure that it isn't her harness that's stretching.Better is good enough.5

Thanks all, you will be proud of me as I haven't contacted work, as DH says it won't do them any harm to sort this out without me. My colleague knew I was on leave too.
Big news here as DH has finally got a full time permanent job doing what he wants to do. The pay isn't fantastic but it's only 30 minutes travel time and he is excited about it. The big issue we have now is that we are going to have to sort something out with our old pooch as we will both be working full time.
Bit of an anxious day today, lots on my mind. We went to York and had lunch, DH finally closed his old business bank account so that good. We are going to have to be really on top of the flying and be super organised, I have got used to DH being at home alot so it's going to mean changes for me too.6
