i noticed the mince u have down cost £6.

i buy ground steak mince healthy living at tesco and it is £1.89 a bag for 500g and it does 8 portions of spag bol for us.no fat every comes out of this

or they do a bag of beef mince which is 1.75kg for £3.13. this does us 1 lasagne , 6 portions of chilli and 6 portions of spag bol. it does have a bit of fat which comes out of it, but once the mince has been cooked i put it in the sieve to get rid of any fat.

Also £3.97 for comfort dry. i guess that is a big bottle. so u won't buy that every week.

also squash £2.08 again sounds like a big bottle so prob won't buy that every week. but for children what i do is buy a carton of purer apple or pure pineapple juice about 50-60p in tesco. and this easy last's my 2 children over a week , diluted down.

Tuna chunk's £2.98 - shop around. i don't know how much tuna u use in your wraps. but morrisons sells a huge tin of tuna chunks in spring water for 98p. and in the wraps , add things like lettuce , tomato , cucumber etc to give a bit more filling, which might make it a bit cheaper.

other than that , nothing really sticks out apart from what others have said.

looks like a nice menu tho. making me very hungary

    Hi Charleybabes

Don't know where you live but have you got a decent farm shop? Things are generally cheaper there and a lot tastier. Would recommend a freezer. Delias white sauce is so easy, you must whisk it all the time or it will go lumpy. I also get a lot of my meat from the butcher, but I will buy good quality meat from supermarkets if it's reduced. We also have a farm near us that shoots game for us that is really cheap and my local butcher also sells it. Wood pigeon costs £2.50 and two will feed 6 people. Also rabbit is cheap, not a big fan myself but OH, DS and cats are.

    Good luck :A xxxx
  • I would get the veg from Lidl - much cheaper - Have a look if there is a fruit and veg shop on the high Street - we have one and they have better prices than most supermarkets.

I agree only buy plum tomatoes and whizz them - gives you chopped tomatoes.
Make the Beef Mince stretch more - my nan used to make sauce for 4 people with 200g of Mince. So I would have that - not to clued up on the price of meat since I don't buy it.

I wouldn't buy the Pasta Sauce - make your own.

Mexican wraps - I would just make a sandwich or buy more of the cheap pitta you have on your list.

Tuna Chunks seem rather expensive ...

Good start - you will get there.

The key is to buy less of the expensive stuff and make the expensive stuff last longer, complement your chicken roast with some stuffing (which is cheap) so you have some chicken meat left for sandwiches or a chicken curry....

Hi Charleybabes, good luck on your shop

I was asuming the comfort dry were the nappies, so that is a reasonable price, I tend to stock up on nappies when they are on offer (I have twins so get through loads lol)..

Just one thing about the Chicken, I get mine at Tesco and I get a large chicken usually for around £4.50 (last time I was in got one reduced to £3.50) anyway I find I get loads out of this, enough for a roast dinner for the family of 5 and 2 more meals (usually cold meat with Chips next day and then the rest frozen and used in a pie/pasta dish)

Others would get even more out of it, but have a big eating dh and we are also not great at eating all the meat, I also never get round to making a soup with the carcass...

Anyway just a thought in case you see a large chicken for a good price, but maybe others know better and 2 regular ones would do more...

I do actually buy the passata to use as a pasta sauce as I find it really cheap and it is easier (for me) to do quickly with my little ones under my feet..I usually buy the cartons, then use what I want and freeze the rest in ice cube trays to use later (I often end up using a few cubes to make up a tomato base for a hm pizza - well the topping is home made lol...

Hope you get loads of bargains

hiya :hello: the mince is expensive at 2 for £6, go to aldi (or was it lidl  ...always get those 2 mixed up :o )their mince for a large tray is £1.50, i buy several trays for the freezer and stock up. chilli powder/herbs/spices go to a indian supermarket its muchhhh cheaper or look in the ethnic food section of the supermarket rather than their herb rack where you are just paying for the nice jars. have you got room to store potatoes? you can get a big sack for about £6 from farm shops. i buy white label can of tuna in brine for about 29p a tin. chickens are 2 for £5 in tescos so you could forget buying the turkey. you can make your own garlic baguettes by buying end of day reductions for 10p slicing and filling with garlic butter wrapping them up in tin foil and freezing untill needed. baked beans could be supermarket cheapies. milk its cheaper to buy the biggest cartons of full milk then put a slug of water in it to make it go further (nobody has noticed in my house yet ;) )the cheap white label squash is surprisingly good think its about 20 or 30p. i keep this for the kids and hide the slightly better stuff for me n oh in the cupboard.
try using vinegar as a fabric conditioner, i know it sounds odd but it does work and its pennies compared to £3.97 just for a smell  i could get another 4 days food out of that! again fromage frais/yogs/bog roll cheapy versions are perfectly ok...you are flushing the paper away not keeping it as bathroom decs lol :rotfl: who cares so long as it does the job. i used to buy the nice toilet roll but came to the conclusion that i was only buying it so my guests didnt think i was a skinflint...every £ you save helps the cause so now they can use my cheapo stuff or nothing  :rotfl:
another thing i save loads on is homemade washing powder it takes 5 mins tops to make heres the ingredients:-

1 mug of any old cheapy grated soap 5/10p
1 mug of washing soda crystals 55p(usually hidden on the bottom shelf in the corner of the washing p aisle in tescos )
1 mug of borax £1.50(found in boots with washing p etc)

throw all of this into a plastic lidded tub give it a quick mix and i use about 1 or 2 tablespoons per wash depending on if ds has been rolling around the rugby field

theres lots of ways you could save cash from your shopping bill, it takes a bit of getting used to but im sure you will manage fine, good luck...angchris xx
