Looks good but I would not buy chopped tomatoes - they are dearer and watery so buy more plum tomatoes and chop them yourself - they are much cheaper and better - The pasta sauce is it for the lasagne as hmade white sauce costs much less - I also buy at Tesco a bag of veg i.e. turnip. onion, carrots, parsnips etc for about 90p which is cheaper than buying them separately but depends where you shop. Very good start to the new year. Well doneSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

passata is the tomatoey stuff :rofl - give tinned tomatoes a good ol' whizz, and then reduce - using tomato paste thickens it up and adds shed loads of flavour. But add a bit (not too much) of sugar otherwise it'll be too acidic.
have bread instead of pitta/naan (though not nearly as nice)
make your own garlic bread using a baugette (bought cheap at the end of the day) - you can prepare then freeze it for future use
I really admire what you're doing.0 -
i was going to make a large tomato type sauce that i could seperate for spag boll and lasagne and then for the chilli
i dont really know how to make white sauce so i thought for this week atleast id just buy one
is the bag of veg liek the bumper bags of root veg you can get??0 -
Yes thats them - stewpack or soup pack I bought one to-day - the brocolli in Tesco was half price as was loads of green veg to-day too so stocked up for this week at least.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Plum and chopped toms are a lot cheaper (think 29p?) in Netto or tesco, I always ask people to grab me some of these sort of thing if they are going there as I don't live near a netto any more.
Garlic bread - just use your garlic and some butter and spread on a normal baguette which will be much cheaper (mince/grate finely a clove or two of garlic and then mix it in with the butter) and heat in the oven to melt.
Instead of buying the chicken and the diced turkey why not buy two chickens, roast them at the same time and then chop up the one not being eaten for the roast dinner and use for the curry, should be more meat on this so you can freeze the leftovers for another dinner.
I hope this was a little helpful, I do love cooking and saving money!:j0 -
i like the idea of buying the cheap bagutte and making my own.. in our asda you can normally buy them for about 5 or 10p at end of night i might have to send h out in the evenings on the hunt for cheap bread!!!0

white sauce is REALLY easy (can't tell you how as I do it by guesswork). Many people put cheese into it for lasagne but it isn't necessary if you sprinkle a good load over the top. Grate a bit of nutmeg into it for extra flavour - not too much though.0 -
charley i think its called a soup bag or something in my local tesco (or i might have made that up as thats what i often use it for lol)
well done on the meal plan - i need to start doing that as i just tend to buy and see what i can make lol0 -
another thing you can do if you're lucky is to buy fresh ready-roasted chicken for real knock down prices at the end of the day from your supermarket.
Our nearest is Waitrose and is on my way home. I generally negotiate the price down to about £2.00/£2.50 if they've still got a few about half an hour before closing. The only thing is that they're not very big.0 -
I also do the white sauce by guesswork but very easy and if you buy 2 chickens for £5 which is what they were on offer for - roast them but make stock with the carcasses and make home made soup = also very easy. Good luckSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
