The money you save on shopping you can put towards the credit card and weekends away!
It does make it easier if you have a goal or a target - it's a money saving challenge that will make a difference -saving money on groceries is probably the easiest area to cut back on and make savings. But also having a realistic budget to start with. You could work out the average from your till receipts to start but then think about what you are buying.1 -
I too am a single person and also spend £130 a month on food and household cleaners, etc. The loaves are my most expensive outlay as they’re gluten-free.I don’t have a huge appetite though and don’t snack between meals.6 medium eggs and some mushrooms will provide me with 3 main meals, always with fresh veg, or green salad and potatoes.Strong teabags mean I can use them twice, and I do like strong tea!1

No200pm on food it depends what and where your shopping? We use Tescos as we found Morrisons and Sainsburies much more expensive. Lidl/Aldi i am not a fan.
Me and my other half spend about 200-250.
Advice re shopping, use things like nectar cards/club cards etc
Both me and my o/h have phones with Tesco mobile. I get clubcard points for paying the bills. And i pay my sons bill and one of my parents. Then I use Tesco the odd time for petrol and all the points soon add up. Vouchers quickly build which come off the shopping bill.
Use supermarket own brands where you can, look at offers, if stuffs on offer you buy regular do it. Its better to have a cupboard with 6-8 eight packets of cereal/pasta/rice etc than buy it full price when you run out.
I find too discounters like home bargains/b and m can be cheaper than supermarkets for things like toiletries/cleaning products/washing powders/
Try it
And most importantly dont go into a supermarket when hungry you will spend more.1 -
Lovely trip to the cinema last night. The film was a bit heavy but it was nice to go as I haven’t been for ages. I had training at work yesterday so four days to the weekend.
I picked up my niece and nephew’s Christmas present (socks) from John Lewis. I am also getting them something related to their hobbies. I need to pick up my secret santa gift tonight (knives and a knife block for my niece). Then I need to get one more present and I’m done.
Early shift today. Need to go to Asda after work and pick up some bits for the week.Credit card 2000

There's a superstition that one should include a silver coin (5p) with a gift of knives so that the friendship isn't cut. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2

So, my big news is that I got my first assignment back. With the caveat that they mark the first assignment very lightly (I made a mistake on the in-text reference), and it’s only worth 10% of the course, I scored 100%. Off to a flying start and I’m very pleased. It’s not surprising as I do have a degree already. Anyway the comments were nice, with helpful suggestions for improvement. Very encouraging.
Hump day today! I had a great day at work yesterday. I worked with someone I like all day and the team meeting went well. I booked a couple of days off to have a long weekend in December. Hopefully it gets approved. Three days to the weekend.
I’m a bit short on funds but hopefully won’t have to get the credit card out this month. I did an Aldi shop last night and popped into Tescos for the missing bits on the way home. It all came in south of £15 for the weekly shop so I was very pleased. I have a lot of stuff in. I have £20 till Monday then £50 for the last week of the month. So the weekly budget is going ok - not perfect but better than what I was doing before.
When I get paid I’ll see what a normal paycheck with no extras is. That will be helpful for budgeting.Credit card 2000

Well done on that assignment score!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1
