Laptop not picking up wifi network

Perplexity gives the most common reasons for
Network Adapter Issues
Driver Problems: Outdated, corrupted, or incompatible drivers can cause the adapter to malfunction or disappear from Device Manager. This often results in the laptop not detecting any Wi-Fi networks at all.
Hardware Failure: The Wi-Fi adapter itself could be faulty or not properly seated (for internal cards), or the USB port could be damaged (for external adapters).
Power Management Settings: If the system is set to turn off the adapter to save power, the Wi-Fi may stop working after periods of inactivity. This can be checked and disabled in the adapter's properties in Device Manager.
System File Corruption: Corrupted system files can affect how the adapter is recognized and managed by the operating system.

The button doesn't seem to do anything, but when I turn off WiFi within network & Internet settings the light turns orange.

If system restore has been enabled (its hit and miss whether it is) see if there's a recent restore point and try it.
"I haven't got time" option. Buy a USB wifi dongle. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
