All off a sudden my laptop has stopped picking up any wifi signal.
Works fine via ethernet cable.
Laptop is HP Pavilion g6
Other devices are connecting to the wifi, so not a router issue.
I turned router off and on again to check too.
Tried the windows 10 troubleshooter, Network adaptor -
it says ' problem with the network adaptor or access points'
Can anyone help please??

Perplexity gives the most common reasons for

    Network Adapter Issues

    • Driver Problems: Outdated, corrupted, or incompatible drivers can cause the adapter to malfunction or disappear from Device Manager. This often results in the laptop not detecting any Wi-Fi networks at all.

    • Hardware Failure: The Wi-Fi adapter itself could be faulty or not properly seated (for internal cards), or the USB port could be damaged (for external adapters).

    • Power Management Settings: If the system is set to turn off the adapter to save power, the Wi-Fi may stop working after periods of inactivity. This can be checked and disabled in the adapter's properties in Device Manager.

    • System File Corruption: Corrupted system files can affect how the adapter is recognized and managed by the operating system.

Is there a physical Wi-Fi on off button? You might have pressed by mistake?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

There is a WiFi button, f12. When WiFi is on the little light ion the button is white.
The button doesn't seem to do anything, but when I turn off WiFi within network & Internet settings the light turns orange.

Basic try :-  RESTART rather than shutdown (they're different).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

see if you have any restore points...  search/run  rstrui
If system restore has been enabled (its hit and miss whether it is) see if there's a recent restore point and try it.
"I haven't got time" option.  Buy a USB wifi dongle.
