I'm really eager to join but can't until the end of the month, what spare money I have this month has to be put towards buying a new car so it'll be March before I have any "spare" again.

Keep me to my word though, I'm joining the gang for a March overpayment :D

    Hello everyone,

Just pm'd my official January total to Bellsbells which was £300. Looks like February might be a difficult month though, as work have kindly forgotten to pay my unsocial hours pay, which is normally around £200 per month! If i'm careful I should still be able to afford a small overpayment in Feb.

Also been thinking recently that it may be a good time to give up smoking, as this would free up an extra £80 - £100 per month, (relatively) pain free. Who knew this would be good for my health as well!
  • My DH knows nothing about my MFW activities either :) but more so because he really doesn't want to know about the financial nitty gritty. In principle he is v supportive of the idea of paying off the mortgage and he has made some big lump sum payments in the past (self employed so this is how his £ comes in) but in practice the idea of dribbling in money every month would seem mad to him. He doesn't exactly see the slow and steady argument :)

In one way too though this is why I want to overpay a little at a time, I'll never be able to make a big gesture and at least this way I'm not just leaving it all to him. I'm also looking forward to the day when he makes the next big payment and I can tell him that I've been overpaying too :)

Oh and MsCat you should definitely give up smoking!! Good luck!

Cazzdevil, I have added you to the list now so you have to keep your word! It doesn't matter if you cannot start overpaying until March. You never know though, you could end up being able to overpay something....even £5 will make a huge difference in the long run to the amount of interest you will have had to pay!

    See you 'officially' in March!

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to join too please if its not too late.
    My target: 5000 this year
    Total so far: 1, 132

Might have to starve my family but hey, we'll all benefit in the long run. Hee hee! Gone down to the real basic no frills food at Morrisons/tescos but cooking from scratch really helps. Been transferring as much out of the bank account as possible to the mortgage without hubby knowing, so far no complaints. However, does anyone else have this problem...... whenever i occasionally say to my husband, "There is now £x amount in the savings pot - isnt that brilliant?!" - he starts saying, "why dont we buy this, why dont we buy that with the savings pot money?" GRRRRRR. I dont think so matey! Best keep my mouth shut in future. I am going to lie about how much is in there..... He'll never know! xxxxx

It's never too late:rotfl: Welcome Lauren and congratulations on a wonderful first month:T

Wow and I mean WOW between us on this thread we have paid an extra £10,922.50 off our combined mortgages so far this month.

I think that is a great acheivement and well worthy of a round of applause for bellsbells for pulling us together. :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T

Here's hoping that we can keep it going and deny the lenders all that extra interest.

This is amazing! Almost £11k paid off in one month - and not just any month, but January, the longest and tightest month of the year!!

Just think, if we can carry on at this rate, we'll have paid off over £130,000 between us by the end of 2008! And I reckon we'll do even better than that, as this snowball keeps on rolling and more people join up.

Well done everybody, what a brillant start! :T

My ISA money came through today, so £1000 has gone straight off the mortgage, and the rest into savings. That will be the last actual overpayment I can make until July, but any spare money will still be put into savings as an overpayment fund until then.
