Like most of you on here I have been counting down the days to pay day on the 31st.
I have just received my payslip through the post and i haven't been paid for half of the hours I worked.
I work as a P/T lecturer and carry out teaching hours for 2 different departments.
In December I did 18 hours for one Department and 16 hours for another which must be claimed for seperately. I have only been paid for 18 hours in total and have since found out (after a very temper controlled conversation) that my pay claim had been put under some paperwork by accident and had missed the deadline.
They told me it was OK because I would get the money owed in my February pay which is on the 29th Feb:mad: , thats alright then - for them!!
So the deal is my pay is short to the tune of around £300. Blooming Marvelous:mad: I will have to use some savings to overpay in February unless a miracle happens.
AND it looks like the Morrissey concert I have tickets for for Friday might be cancelled as he is ill.
I am sick as a chip! But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
After a disastrous weekend I am having to put my plans on hold for the time being.
This weekend has seen two of my fish become ill and die - this has cost my £27 for medication, new filters and new food.
My wireless router keep disconnecting itself from aol. I was having to keep rebooting both the router and the laptop to get back online. I have now switched back to my wired modem and now I can only get on aol pages and MSE.
My hoover switch has gone so I need to replace my hoover . And my car wouldn't start on Sat, luckily I got free breakdown cover with my insurance but they have recovered it back to the Renault garage. I am waiting for them to give the verdict but they can't fit it in until Wednesday. The breakdown guy thought it could be the crankshaft, which could turn out to be very costly, and it's going to cost £50 just for the diagnostics.
SO, what do I do. Pay off the little bit of money I have left over from this month into the mortgage as planned and deal with the car later, bearing in mind I have two months worth of council tax payment that I can pay towards it. or do I save what I have got to go toward the car bill.
Ooops, sorry for the long post. I just find it  that this has come along to spoil my plans just as I am getting started.0 -
Lets drown our sorrows together newmoneysaver:beer:
I would probably keep your spare money for your car and if there is anything left then make an overpayment. You dont want to overpay and then find you needed it for something else.
The handle snapped off my vaccum cleaner recently so I am with you on that one and my exhaust is on its way out.
Isn't life fun:rotfl:But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

Can you not charge them interest for the unpaid salary? I think it's disgraceful that they believe it to be OK because you'll get it paid in your February pay check. I bet if it was their £300 from their salary they'd be something they could do about it.0 -

I would like nothing more than to charge them interest what do you think I should suggest?
3% for being useless
another 2% for not having the decency to let me know in advance and hope I wouldn't notice when I got my payslip.
and an extra 5% for having the cheek make to me feel like Im fussing over nothing as I will get my money next month.
Im sure the personnel department think that all the P/T lecturers must be rolling in money and we only do this job as a hobby to top up our mountains of dosh to go cruising on our yachts in the summer!! If only!!But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

These things are sent to try us - I would use any spare cash to sort the car and not worry about an over payment for this month. If your any thing like me life will stop without a vehicle and you will probably be able to catch up again over the next couple of months. Ive just realised that my financial intentions for this year are probably not going to materialise but we have to get on with it. Hope it works out0

Hi everyone - feeling a little bit down tonight. Best laid plans and all that. I have been feeling really confident about paying loads of my mortgage this year, however when working out my finances forgot the small matter of the £4,400 it will cost for the arrangements i have made for hubbies 40th birthday in January next year. How stupid am I? We dont normally spend loads on each other at christmas or birthdays but since being together the only thing he has consistently wanted is a trip N.Y. Ive booked it as a surprise and will organise a party for 150 friends.
We both want another baby and are saving towards my maternity leave. I think we will have to delay this for a few more months to give me a chance to save some money and maybe I can use some of the maternity money towards his birthday party.....HOPE HE NEVER FINDS OUT!
So to save this kind of money in one year it will work out at approx £566 pm. This is a bit different to the £260 im currently saving. The only way is more overtime and no babies yet - im exhausted just thinking about it.
Great to see so may of you achieving your overpayment targets - keep up the good work and a huge thanks to bellsbells for looking after us0 -

It's coming to that exciting time at the end of the first month. I've just calculated my overpayments for this month and am about to send the PM to bellsbells.
Personally I think a copy of these details should also be posted here (over view in post 1 and details in a new post) so that people can keep up with how we're all doing, be inspired by others (I'm off to dig out my bread-maker after I finish typing) and generally support everyone involved in this thread (and anyone lurking who might want to join in).
What do you think?
That should be easy enough to do - I can just quote the first post in a reply so that we have a record of Jan, with the current month and overall total staying on the first page.
