right newbie question alert....my mortgage is aroound 55k with the cheshire b/s,how do i go about overpaying it each week/month,do i just send the money to were my d/d goes to or do i have to set something up with the Cheshire B/S
thanks in advance for any help Paul

speak to the cheshire - they will be able to tell you if there are any limits on how much you can overpay, and the best way to go about it. I have set up a monthly overpayment with mine, and the money just goes out with my regular mortgage payment. I can also just phone up whenever i want and do an extra one off payment - not that i have done that yet as I am getting some emergency savings behind me. Once I have got £1000 saved however I plan on doing lots of odd payments here and there.

    HTH and welcome!

P.S. when you have got yourself sorted PM me with your aims for the year and you can join the first post!

  • Hi macka0

I'm with Lloyds/C&G - I phoned Customer Services & explained I wanted the relevant account number/sort code etc so I could set it up on my "bill payment" option. Then whenever I want to make a payment I can just click PAY C&G and enter the amount I want.

It did take a bit of explaining as I phoned 3 days after my mortgage started, so I don't think the lady in CS could quite grasp I wanted to OVERpay already.... lol!!

It's SUCH a good feeling though!!!!

Ok here goes my firstish ever post (i replied randomly to another newbie last night whilst browsing)I discovered the world of money saving expert 2 weeks ago today and then on mentioning it to my other half.... OH! aaaahhh thats what that means i thought you guys were talking in code!!anyway... he said that he has seen a programe on c5 and he thought it was the same guy. Watching that i was hooked with money saving, Martin you are a star you have changed my life and eased a lot of needless worries. So after browsing the site and picking up various tips i stumbled (happily) onto this forum and humbly request to join and seek advice pleeeese:j this is my statement of affairs. within the 2 weeks from finding this site i have changed my £2100 cc to and interest free for 15 months egg card changed from asda to tesco to use my club card more effectively, got rid of sky movies and sports saving my £240 per year and added it to my morgage overpayments of £150 opened up a halifax regular saver and save the maximum £250, joined various survey sites and plan on selling stuff on ebay,(deep breath)all earnings of which will go onto the morgage
so to sum up i have as of this year
    debts
morgage: £53500repayment fixed for 2 years 14 years left
    student loan £3500low interest 3%
egg card £2100 interest free 15 months
halifax card £300 to be payed off this month

    savings
morgage overpayment £200pm reduces morgage to 9 yrs:T
    halifax regular saver £250pm 7%interest
savings account £50pm for when stuff goes wrong,
nest egg £3000 just in case
so thats that I aim to take another 2 years off of that 9 year target
phew i'm glad I got that down it's now set in stone best tell the other half about my plans!!!
thanks for reading if you do i'll stop waffling now
    regards
    kerry
P.S i also wrote to the banc asking for all the charges back that they took from is between 2002-2005 £1400!! we'll see what happens with that!
