This is probably a simple question but never done this before so---
I am having a new fireplace fitted and need to pay a deposit via my Halifax current account (online)
They are asking for a bacs payment. Is this the same as making a normal bank transfer and can i do this with Halifax?

Any payment you make will be sent as a faster payment but same difference from your perspective. As long as you have a sort code, account number and name it will reach their account.
I'm always slightly paranoid about getting accounts details correct and used to send a test transfer but as the banks include account name verification I don't tend to do that now.2 -
Thank you! GrumpyDil, I have made a couple of transfers before but it was the Bacs that threw me.0

Its a different word for the same thing in this case.

BACS payments aren't allowed from personal accounts due to payment regulations.
Faster Payments from a personal account work in the same way.
I take it you're aware that BACS/FPs are effectively the same as cash and provide no protection.
Can you pay them with a credit or debit card for limited protection?

Yes I read that Bacs offered no protection but I also read that you couldn't pay Bacs through a Credit card thats why i was going to use my debit card.[Deleted User] said:BACS payments aren't allowed from personal accounts due to payment regulations.

This makes no sense. A bank transfer, be it BACS or Faster Payment, has nothing to do with a debit card.moonpenny said:

Now we're confused. Are you paying the vendor using their sort code and account number (ie Faster Payments - no protection) or using your debit card number, expiry date, and 3 digit CCV (some protection)?moonpenny said:
