Vinted - Don't waste your time

I read the article giving tips on how to be successful selling clothing on Vinted, so I set up an account and placed two items, an Armani jacket and a leather biker jacket, including pictures of the items and labels. One sold within minutes; they sent me all the shipping info....then PERMANENTLY blocked my account for fraud. I appealed, and they msg me to say it could take 120 hours to reply (!) and when they did, they started to ask for more pictures of the same times. These are scammers; don't waste your time. Terrible reviews on TrustPilot, so it's surprising MoneySavingExpert hasn't picked up on this, too.

I've bought a few items on vinted & been very happy with them.

My daughter sells a lot on there & hasn't had any issues.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, certainly not scammers for doing this.    They are obviously trying to weed out the real scammers.

I would presume that when you have followed the instructions of what you want to do and then sold a few things it will be fine.

Saying that, I don't know anything about Vinted - but at least they are trying to stop scammers.

Whilst I think Vinted does have some real issues, I personally would be happy if a brand new seller was at the very least questioned and temporarily blocked if the first thing they listed was an Armani jacket.

In part of their T and Cs, which admittedly are not easy to find , they do mention how to list high end items and suggest they might ask for receipts or some other proof of authenticity.

I've done very well on there just selling unwanted items and even bundles of toys once my grandchildren grow out of them. The trick with all these sites is not to do anything that screams 'scammer' and worries the auto bot.

I've never sold anything on Vinted, but I bought several items without any issues. However, it was about two years ago. Maybe something changed.

    Vinted are not scammers.

41% 1 star reviews on Trustpilot.
    49% 5 star reviews.

Why do you think MSE should pick up on this?

You should understand that the majority of satisfied customers don't bother to write a review.
It's the people who have a complaint - and some are valid, some aren't - that post reviews.

I've bought many items from Vinted over the last few years - right now I'm waiting for 5 items to be delivered.
I've only been disappointed with 1 item.
I've never written a review on Trustpilot.

I would be very wary - to the point of using 'item verification' for a new seller listing an Armani jacket.

Common sense would have dictated that you list or sell a couple of low end priced items before listing expensive items no???
That was a masive risk you were taking lol.  Especially these days when buyers will try and get things for free and accuse a genuine seller of selling fake items.  I mean, I use Ebay, Facebook and Vinted to sell things, and each time I've had the sense to list a few low end items first before going for dearer items.

Applying a little common sense here...

A brand new seller with no feedback lists an Armani jacket. Would YOU buy something branded an expensive from someone with no feedback? I certainly wouldn't. Why? Because it's something scammers do - open a new account and list either fakes or stuff they don't actually have.

So I'd actually say well done to Vinted for flagging this up and asking you to authenticate the jacket to make sure you aren't a scammer.

I've bought lots on Vinted and never had a problem. I look for sellers with good feedback, along with clear photos and a good description of the items.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • I am interested in this because I have recently started using Vinted. I put about 5 items on for sale. No item was over £20. I sold 3 items within a couple of days and am now waiting for the money to show in my account. No problems so far. It is clear that people don't pay much for clothes on Vinted, but I am selling items that are just sitting in my wardrobe taking up space, so I am happy to get a few pounds for them. I intend to save the money I earn in the Vinted app and buy something for myself with the money earned.

Vinted are great.. unfortunately they don't accept Natwest debit cards. Nor Lloyds Bank. nor Co-Op. nor HSBC.
As I have tried over the years, when I've had accounts with different institutions after doing switches and using each account for a while.  A family member, different part of the country, also had the same issue with their Barclays card and one other, unsure of what their second bank account was.

When I eventually got hold of someone at Vinted CS (no easy task) I was simply told, 'it's your bank problem'. Which categorically is not the case, as I took the liberty of checking with the banks, only to be told that there was never any attempt via Vinted to register any kind of transaction, or add the card to the account; the transaction hadn't got that far at all. It was clearly on the Vinted end.  It was only after searching a few other forums, that I realized that literally looks like thousands of people appear to have the same issue... how anybody ever registers for an account, or is able to trust them financially, is completely beyond me.

    I have a Vinted account.
My payment options are my Virgin current account or my MBNA Visa.
I have the option of adding a new payment card.
I had no problem setting it up.
I'm not sure what your issue is.
I feel able to trust Vinted financially.
