I'd be fascinated to know about the cultural origin of this naming tradition.
My DH has no middle name and I once had to fill in a form for him with John Noteveryonehasamiddlename Smith.4 -
I don't have a middle name either - but I've never come across a form that demanded one. The closest was my log in set up in my last job - I was told to use 3 letters, being my first 2 initials and the first letter of my surname. Luckily, my only initial and the first 2 letters of my surname worked. But I was actually accused of lying/hiding my middle name, because "everyone has more than one name".4

My parents bought a house in the 1980's. In the legal paperwork my father used a 'middle' name.30 odd years later after my father had passed, my mother tried to downsize but hit a problem. The 'middle' name my father used was his confirmation name(?) And not a 'legal' middle name sordid not show on his death or birth certificates. This delayed the sale and my mother had to get an indemnity policy against the person who appeared on the purchase claiming ownership. My father didn't have a British name and I can't find anyone in the UK with the same name.Regardless, be careful about just putting any old name / using the same name twice. It might be worth getting legal advice on how to resolve this formally.May you find your sister soon Helli.

My birth certificate doesn’t have my middle name as Mum and Dad only decided on it for definite after I was registered IIRC. I managed to get it on my driving licence though, and as a result it now also appears on my passport too. Meanwhile MrEH has two middle names - greedy devil. 😂🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

To do with claiming a pension rather than buying a house.... Back in my LGPS days I took a phone call from a frantic member - she wanted to claim her pension, but we had asked for a copy of her birth certificate, and she had a problem. Seems her parents had decided on the name Florence. She had been christened Florence, and had always used Florence. But her dad had registered her birth after wetting the baby's head a little too liberally, and her birth certificate said 'Florrie Baby'. I just asked her to send a covering letter explaining what had happened, and all was well
Mind you, we had more than one query from fund members because their birth certificates were in their maiden names, and asking if they needed to get them be re-issued in their current/married name......0 -
I would think that splitting your name over the two boxes would be better than None, Not Applicable or putting your name twice - then it’s a formatting issue and there’s nothing on it that isn’t your legal name.0

The problem is that will then give problems down the line - when the OP’s name on the title doesn’t match up with their other ID documents. There must be a workaround for it - I suspect calls to both HMRC and HMLR may be needed. Although in the second of those, perhaps @Land_Registry might be able to shed some light?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

An obvious example to those of a certain age and musical interest would be the Icelandic singer Bjork daughter of Guþmundur
I imagine the issue many professionals might face is that the digital processes present problems where a fore and surname are required in separate fields. Old fashioned paperwork may have to be relied upon as a result. As with all things 'rare' it's best for the conveyancer to explain the circumstances when submitting the application to register ownership.“Official Company Representative

Thanks @Land_Registry - it's not something I have encountered, but in a situation where one uses the portal to submit the AP1 and supporting paperwork, I do wonder whether the portal will allow an application without at least 2 names (first name/surname) - clearly it's financially less than ideal to have to submit a paper application instead as it will cost the client a far higher fee!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
