Many of the Sikh community have no family name as such, males have their last name "Singh", females "Kaur".If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Surely nothing stopping you changing your name by deed poll to have a 1st & surname??? Would likely make life much easier..
Entirely up to lender, solicitor, land registry etc etc what their rules & regulations are as long as they are not unlawfully discriminating.... (discrimination can be legal).0 -
Can your solicitor just enter (none) or something?0
-
Is your name long enough that you could split it into the two boxes?0

In a university student database I'm familiar with, this is quite a common occurrence for some overseas students. As the surname field is mandatory the workaround is to enter a period or a hyphen in that field.
ETA - It does of course depend whether the system you're using will accept a non-alpha character in that field.0 -
If this is internal system used by solicitors, why don't they enter "Not Applicable" in the corresponding field(s)?0

When dealing with HMRC online services someone in this thread found that while the online forms will not accept a blank surname field, they will accept a blank first name box.

https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/sa/6cc488b1-dca0-ee11-a81c-002248c69e85It is intentionally left like that because verifying first names proved to be difficult as many people go around with short first names (Elizabeth going for Liz!), all it did was generate more support calls HMRC can't afford. Even worse some people would put their titles there fgs.Note:I'm FTB, not an expert, all my comments are from personal experience and not a professional advice.Mortgage debt start date = 25/10/2024 = 175k (5.44% interest rate, 20 year term)

And I suspect the risk of doing as you suggest is that it ends up in the name of Zsreech Notapplicable.1 -
Yep, U77 has nailed it - so your SDLT form will throw up the name exactly like that, which then means if you try to get anything else through at registration the LR will raise a requisition because your SDLT5 doesn't match what is on the TR1 and any charge.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
