Who is the provider, what shares are you buying?
5% commission sounds very steep.
Don't forget there is also Stamp Duty to pay.1 -

What are you trying to invest in? Paying 5% commission is very 1990s. These days, if it’s just an OIEC/unit trust you should be able to find it with no commission or bid/offer spread.Carmadcolin said:Was just about to get a stocks and shares ISA £10k with 5%commision agreed to that

There shouldn't be any charge for opening an ISA, even if there is one for subsequently purchasing investments within the wrapper, an entirely separate activity.Carmadcolin said:

It certainly sounds suspicious, so please clarify more detail about who you're dealing with - is this a proper regulated institution or some dodgy outfit found via social media?Carmadcolin said:is this a scam or normal1 -
Was just about to get a stocks and shares ISA £10k with 5%commision agreed to thatCommission was banned for advised sales back in 2013. So, this has to be a non-advised product, where it is still allowed. However, it is extremely rare. Who is it?

I would be on guard that you are not being scammed.
