I get home from holiday tomorrow evening so will record my weight on Wednesday. I don't know what to expect! On the one hand I have had ice creams and late meals. On the other hand, I have walked between 17000 and 24000 steps every day for ,9 days. That included lots of steps up and down.6

Good morning, a 5.5lb loss to report @Brambling. Started this quarter at 12 st 11lbs, lost .5lb then gained 2lbs to 12st 12.5 lbs. Today I'm 12st 7lbs.
I was going to do a blood sugar/zoe type thing but as I was researching it I came across a few research papers for my underlying health condition describing how an ultra low carb diet is halting and in some cases reversing the disease progression. Evidence has been building for last 5 years and it's even now on our disease info web page (I don't check it often as I thought I knew everything and it's a pretty depressing read!)
So new way of living is not quite keto as protein levels aren't as high and at the moment I can't get my net carbs as low as the researchers diet (although not far off).
Long and the short of it is, eating this way appears an expensive way to eat but I'm so full on a lot less food. I'm not intermittent fasting but can see how that would be easier to do eating like this as you really don't feel like you need to eat.
It is taking a lot of thought and changes to eat this way. However, the thought I'm helping to slow down a disease that up until now I thought was an inevitable march towards more than one organ failure and transplants, is highly motivating.
Even if it only pushes the inevitable back by a few years it would be amazing. The weight loss (which I doubt will continue at such a rapid pace) is almost secondary to that.
Big thank you to this thread and @Brambling because without it and my weight plateau I wouldn't have gone looking for another way and found the research on my disease as I was double checking if a blood sugar diet was safe for my condition. Turns out it's bloody amazing for it.
Hope everyone has a good week.Weight loss goal 6/7lbs for first quarter
Overall 2025 weight loss goal for the year 6/21lbs

@Brambling. Stood on the scales this morning. Only +1/2 lb following my holiday. Obviously the walking must have helped. I did have larger meals than at home. Hopefully I can lose it again by next week.7

I'm off on my jolly holidays on Friday - I'll try to remember to weigh myself before I go but I can't promise. I'm expecting to do a fair few steps too as it's a city break. The thing about exercise is (I used to run) was that it made me fit and it made me happy but it didn't make me thin. It just made me hungry. Like Bella (well done on your loss Bella ) I have had to restrict carbs to lose weight. I had PCOS when I was younger and I did hope that I would see weight loss when I hit the menopause but that didn't happen. My horrible acne did go though so that was a win.
It's also taken me roughly 3 years to be used to this way of eating. That "6 weeks to a new habit" thing was not written by someone who liked cake. I have also worked on stopping eating when I'm full. Doesn't matter if I leave one forkful or half a plate, when I'm done then I'm done. I was force fed when I was small because I was little and skinny. I'm only 5ft tall now so I was never really made to knock back dinners that a ditch digger would find suitable. My sister and I say that mum broke our "off buttons" for food. I'm starting to feel like mine is making a return. Needing to lose weight for surgery really helped to concentrate my mind too.7 -
I'd like to re-join please.
The weight has piled back on since I stopped doing slimming world and I really need to do something and change the habits that have crept back.
Not sure if it's ok to say how heavy I am, but 17 stone 8 pounds being 5ft 1inch in height isn't good.
I've got tips from slimming world, but really want to avoid diet culture.
part of my brain needs to relearn after doing diet culture for so long and not having a clue how to cook or eat properly.
What probably doesn't help is I seem to like a large portion of food, so will need to probably bulk my meals with vegetables or salad and make sure I get plenty of protein.

It does feel like a marathon this week, I've been to the G.P's to ask about knee braces (knees are worse because gluten makes my joints ache), just to up my walks / ease pain, I'm determined not to be one of the people who hang over the shopping trolly at the supermarket.
@CRANKY40, I know where you are coming from when you say about childhood eating, and how it messes you up in later life (I think @Brambling has said something similar). Parents and older siblings who put children on diets, weighing them and make it your fault for your body shape! I suspect many people with weight issues have a similar tale.
@Bella_Budget, glad you have found something that works for you, I'm finding it hard to eat what the hospital wants me to eat, especially the carbs, fibre has the opposite effect on me.
I will carry on with the protein drinks, 89 calories and 20g of protein, not as healthy as a yogurt, but something is better than nothing.
Well done on the weight loss everyone, maybe the lighter nights are making us feel better.
