but the "novelist" part could refer to previous works, ill scan against that first to see as that was one a few had reservations on, so if we go down the ghost writer route, ill look at those first.

    THE GHOST http://politics.guardian.co.uk/bookshelf/story/0,,2175291,00.html
this adds strength to the ghost writer theory.
    thats a fiction work.
While Lang's political allegiance is never named, it does not take a huge leap of imagination to see this as a fictionalised attempt by Harris to stab Tony and Cherie Blair firmly in the front. Sure, as a political journalist, he was quite the cheerleader for the Labour leader. He has long been credited with having spotted the MP for Sedgefield's talents long before others realised his potential and during the 1997 election he was granted unprecedented access. He was even on the plane as the Prime Minister-to-be headed for victory.
But they fell out spectacularly, first over Blair's treatment of Harris's old friend, Peter Mandelson, when he was forced to resign for the second time in 2001, and later over the Iraq war, to which he was vehemently opposed

so if that is about a retired pm, now we need the one looking back as this would be forward.

I hate to say it but Chesil Beach has a publication date of 2008 according to the Waterstones website.

I'm pretty sure that the answers to 1 can't be right, as they are non-fiction works, and the question states "novelists", which is why I thought of Ghost Writer.
    Hi everyone
only just joined the forum as I found this post last night.
Do you mean The Ghost by Robert Harris? I've been searching for books by novelists about or based on Blair and that is the only one I've managed to find so far.

The Guardian book shop web site has its publication date as 05/04/2007 so maybe the Waterstones date is for a new edition or they have just made a typo

    welcome, hope you enjoy it.

Robert Harris was a journalist - so he qualifies

the word Ghost is now there and that ties in with the clue.

So have we agreed on the other one?

The book cover is driving me crazy - I have looked through about 75 pages of books on the waterstones site and not seen anything yet - I've searched under Asia, Sun, Japan, China grrrrrr
