  • ah, sorry toniq - I was being a bit inept there.

yes, this one sounds good - I used to work in politics (until last spring - but not as Blair's assistnt or anything!! it was just coincidence!) and the only books on blair/labour that I've been aware of generally look at the history of the party or the future of the party in non-ideological terms.

the only texts like this that I'm aware of being published in 2007 were just articles, not complete books, or compendiums with a whole batch of writers.

so, yup, that book is sounding very much like the right answer - props fam. :D:D:D

thesynopsis describes his struggles and trekking through europe, im not 100% but it looks like theres a chance.

“A classical guitar prodigy, Kurtz was utterly devoted to music, but he recognized, at age 23, that he did not have the talent or temperament to be the next Segovia. Years later he returns to the guitar and to meticulous practicing, aiming not at a career, but at a sustaining spiritual experience. This book’s lovely essays also contain lots of lyrical appreciation for guitar history and Eastern Europe.”

russian /american settingwith the musician bit thrown in, there were only 13 booker longlisted books so one of 8 had to be on the list and this is the only one that fitted the clue.
    review snippet

Meanwhile, a talented Russian pianist has links to the Glovers. His life is a million miles from theirs. Docx thrillingly evokes the sleazy underbelly of the poverty-stricken in Russia, and the horrors of drug dependency, withdrawal and eking out a living in a criminal world are fascinatingly depicted.

There are so many breathtakingly potent sections in this novel. Fear, anger, loyalty, hatred and love are all seared into the text, and some sections are white-knuckle inducing. Docx captures the conflicting emotions that family evokes. And the characters are rounded and believable, they have faults like real people, and their dialogue sparkles.

The Booker should have gone to this or to Darkmans

im very wary regarding the bob dylan one,
i came across ashes books written by clive batty and dylan books written by someone batty , that seemed more logical,
but then we can all find links for everything if we look hard enough.
