Caravan Insurance for a van stored in France

  • Like a lot of people, I have been storing my caravan in France for over 10 years and have always intended bringing it back to the UK.

I too have been refused insurance by Towergate, and no UK insurer will either.

Tried French insurers and they also will not insure us. They require French trailer registration, proof of roadworthiness and your address in France

I have been offered 3rd-party liability cover for 240 euros, but that actually means the Caravan is not insured.

    So why bother I thought.

I reached out to my Regular Camp site and the people storing my Caravan, and there reply was they will accept me with No Insurance as long as I waive any Liability against them for Damage to my Caravan.

So I have signed the paperwork and I accept the risk!!

I imagine this solution will be frowned on by many and thats fine.

I am not prepared to spend any more money on a 6 week holiday in France. It used to be more and then came Brexit.

I have british trailer registration on the Caravan and the Gardienage tow it too and from the camp site, which is 10 km round trip and they are Insured. My Caravan is 13 years old and still looks in very nice condition. When stored their is No gas left in the van and no batteries so minimum risk there.

Hope you all find a solution that suits you

    Good Luck

    Hi All,

I came across this thread as we are looking to insure our van this year and it will be the first time we are planning to store it in France (near Beziers)

I emailed Dries De Bont from FR Assistance NL yesterday as per previous post suggestions and received a response from him today as per below:-

"Recently Allianz France unfortunately announced they no longer want to insure foreign registered caravans anymore. So I'm so sorry and can't propose a solution to this anymore"

    Any assistance/help appreciated!

    Thanks.
