I got the email. First time, as I missed out last year.  Was gutted as only just fell short of paying in £500 one month and it was £100! (so I'd set up a standing order to move £500 Jan/Feb/Mar this year).

Not sure what the criteria is but I read you needed £100 in a savings account too so I made sure to have that too (despite the low % after bonuses expired)
you are mixing this up with the fairer share program.  this one is specifically because of the Virgin takeover.
And probably because a lot of members were unhappy they were not given a vote over whether Nationwide should buy up Virgin Money.

Giving £50 to all members (who qualify) because a minority of members (it was only a minority compared to numbers of members) made a fuss?  I rather doubt that there is a real cause and effect there.

I wonder how many people are wakening dormant accounts with them.  So existing customers happy & obtaining some new ones.

Perhaps they’re looking at it as a marketing cost to reactivate a customer. If so that’s clever, because it gives something to people who would miss out on Fairer Shares and hence feel negative about them. And if you qualify for both, you could look at it as Fairer Shares going up to £150.

Take your passport and a couple of address proofs to your local branch and they'll sort it.

I will, IF I actually get it, but I'm not convinced that I will, looking at the full T&Cs
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Taxable, so worth £40 for me, but not going to complain as it is still free money  😊
Taxable next year - I would have run out of personal savings allowance if it was paid out before the end of the tax year.

Unless it was a humble brag about earning 6 figures
Personal savings allowance is £1000 (£500 if paying 40% tax). Unless you are talking about six figures including pennies, I'm not sure where you are going.

Have had an email about this.... thing is, i havnt had any "active" online Nationwide accounts for a few years.
I need to double check, but i remember seeing a Nationwide Pass book ( with a small amount of money in ) in the case where i keep documents etc,
Is it best to go to a branch with the Pass book and show them the email ?  Nearest branch to me is about 25 miles away, but i do go shopping / cinema/ eating out over there semi-regularly.

Passbooks haven't been in use since last month, but if that's the only account document you have then take it and see what they say. I believe you should have been sent a card to replace it, did that not happen?

Passbooks haven't automatically been replaced with cashcards, there's an option to keep using the accounts and just take ID into the branch each time. There are a range of replacement accounts that offer cashcards available only to former passbook customers but they have to be proactively applied for.

@deejaybee take your passbook and passport into the branch next time you're in town. You've already qualified for the bonus by having the passbook account, it will be worth your time replacing it with a cashcard to withdraw your £50 bonus with.
