nyx*independent wigan appears on my Nationwide VIsa credit card statment. The bank says it cannot identify the merchant via VISA. Its a card reader where there is no human intervention e.g. vending machine, toll booth etc. Nationwide have refunded the money.
Is Nationwide obliged by its terms and conditions to identify who/what is taking money from my account?

Best bet as said a vending machine or storage for a item (mobile phone locker?), so could be in gym, nightclub or any other such place & maybe a few days or more earlier.

If you have your card, then odds on it's something you have bought.Life in the slow lane0 -

For a start, where were you on the date of the transaction or the day before? What were you up to?
Your bank should give you what information they have which is generally not a great deal as all they get is brief info from the company's merchant bank.0 -
I was looking at my Credit Card statement trying to work out what the payment to nyx*vibxgrouplimited related too, and a Google showed this thread as a result. The first post was extremely helpful in identifying that it may be a vending machine, so thought I would comment to help anyone else searching for an answer.Mine was for a Japanese candy floss machine at Kingston, Milton Keynes when we visited a while back. Feel sorry for any vendors using them as a payment provider and getting chargeback requests due to people not being able to identify or remember the transaction.

Contactless are treated in the same as as PIN transactions. As card has to be present to make the transaction. Especially when customer confirms card in their possession.
So same as PIN, no chargeback rights.
VISA do not publish online, Mastercard do I think, publish their regs.Life in the slow lane0 -

No, chargebacks can be used in certain circumstances if paid by chip & pin but not a generic "I dont recognise the transaction" as you'd need to explain how someone got your card and pin1 -

Something you can see from transaction details.
Main reason people would call on PIN or contactless is, such as this thread. They do not recognise the transaction.
Contrary to belief, there is no unrecognised transaction chargeback. The nearest is fraud. But as people still have their card, that is highly unlikely to happen.
Can't even request a voucher from retailer on the transaction. As they are in person payments. Visa/Mastercard take the stance it is up to customer to remember how they spend their money.Life in the slow lane0
