OK you lot are going to think I am totally Nuts:o
My crisis appears to be over. To cut a VERY long story short.........
My OH was going to be made redundant, then he wasnt, then he put in for voluntary redundancy anyway, that was refused, he was going to leave work and somehow we would manage, now he has changed his mind and decided to stick it out and overpay as much as possible until the place closes (which is pretty likely)............soooooo
We are going to overpay as much as possible on the mortgage while simultainiouly building our instant access savings to at least 6 months worth of income.
I am stopping all contributions to the Stocks and Shares Isa for the time being (I nearly died when I saw how much they have dropped in value) and the money is going into our Isa instead.
We are cutting back as much as possible while still having some life but looking at our finances (including my new salary) it looks like we will be able to overpay around £500 a month.
You still think I am nuts dont you???:rotfl: :rotfl:But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

Good to hear of the new plans; obviously OH needs to weigh up the redundancy payment (which you realise depends on the company simply choosing to make cuts, you could lose out if the company goes bankrupt) and possible new job which I assume he is already looking for?
Anyway, yes S&S ISA have been hit hard (we're down 53%) but if you are leaving for 5-7 yrs should recover (famous last words!). Take care with the impact on any benefit options related to OH by way of savings and also deliberate reduction in assets. But I would expect if you still hold savings then the extra OP whilst in work shouldn't be a problem.
Fingers crossed for a brighter prospect in the next few months.0
