Trace debt recovery

Hi just needing some advice I’ve had a letter from trace debt recovery regarding £30.11 fuel owed to shell garage, which they’ve put on the letter £150.11 is owed so quite an increase, but I’m at a loss as what to do because although I own the vehicle it had been lent to a family member and the cctv images show that, I’m being threatened with court action for a debt that isn’t mine, I’m just wondering what my options are? Do I just pay the £150.11 debt or do I stand a chance in fighting against it? Any help would be appreciated, trace debt recovery won’t talk to me unless I’m willing to pay it.

What has this family member said about driving off without paying?2

What are the chances of recovering the debt from the family member ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

I’ve tried recovering the money from the family member but no surprise their not willing to pay £150.11 and leave me lumped with it.0

Well, if the CCTV image shows your family member I would point that out in a letter/email and give them said family member's details
But that's just me as I would be sufficiently irritated to go that2 -

You are not responsible for the criminal actions of your relative, they are just trying to scare you into paying. Don’t speak to them again , write to them informing them of the name and address of the culprit. Tell them that you will treat any more threats as harassment.Keep a copy and keep proof of posting.4

If they don't stop after you've written complain to your MP about Trace's behaviour and insistence you're liable for the debt. Record any future phone calls with them.

Just email Trace, copy in Shell Head office, briefly explain the background for Shell's benefit and tell them there is no 'keeper liability' law in this case and the driver was:
Full name and address
yours faithfully,
---------------------------------------
Please show us the Trace letter.
Dying to know how come they added an eye-watering £120 for a consumer to pay when (had it been a B2B contract) the late payments regs cap added fees on small debts to forty quid!
Also wanting to see if they lied about keeper liability.
After all, they are using DVLA data.
There are KADOE rules which in theory should prevent lying about liability and using data for a different purpose that it was bought for, which in this case was ONLY to ask the driver to pay.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
