Getting Libby books on kindle

I've downloaded the Libby app and I'm trying to work out how to get Libby books on my kindle.
When I tap on one of my books and "manage loan" and "read with" I only have 2 options - Libby and Epub. Kindle is not one of the options. Just wondered if anyone could help. Thanks

What have you downloaded the Libby app to?
Do you have an actual Kindle eBook reader (like a Paperwhite) or is it an Amazon Fire tablet?
Simple answer is that you can't.
Real answer is that you can but it takes a number of steps and involves downloading the book as EPUB to a device that has Adobe Digital Editions installed and registered and then transferring the book to the Kindle via another program that removes Digital Rights Management from the file.*
Another way is to use US Libby and connect to a US Library to borrow books - in the US version there's an Add to Kindle button. It doesn't work with UK libraries. Doable but quite hard to do for free.
Or buy a Kobo ebook reader, they can connect and download books from your library.
* doing this is, of course, a breach of copyright and is the equivalent of stealing a physical book from your library.0 -
They do but the Libby app is telling fibs, it doesn't download an EPUB file - it downloads an ACSM (Adobe Content Server Message) which is a "pointer" which tells the Adobe Digital Editions program (which you must have authorised to your device) where to go and get the EPUB file from. This file is protected by DRM and won't open on another device.born_again said:Kindles now use Epub format.
And no, Libby can't be loaded on to a Kindle, nor can ADE.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I'm not going to bother with it - It's too much of a faff1 -
I'm interested in doing this, purely as a convenience for reading books that I have legitimately borrowed from my (UK) library. Do you have a link to instructions @flaneurs_lobster? I do use Calibre, and I have seen various web sites with half baked instructions using OverDrive and Adobe DE, but can't seem to make the workflow succeed. Maybe the route has been closed off.flaneurs_lobster said:...

I'm not going to post here step-by-step how to breach legal copyright protection, and in any case I have no knowledge (nor need to know) how to load non-Amazon sourced books to a Kindle.sausage_time said:

Go and Google the well-known Calibre add-on DeDRM, far as I know it'll let you do the first bit.1 -
Thanks. Just to be clear I currently use calibre for converting draft manuscript PDFs to EPUB to make them easier to read on the Kindle (scalable fonts, etc). With Libby, I have no desire to breach copyright - this would just be a convenience measure (I prefer my Kindle paperwhite to my tablet for reading). I would of course delete at the end of the "loan" and would not share under any circumstances.flaneurs_lobster said:

This stuff has become fractious recently, with takedowns being imposed on the usual sites like Reddit and Calibre discussion sites where there used to be step-by-step instructions for this kind of thing. Once the likes of Amazon point their legal attack dogs at a site not many choose (nor are rich enough) to fight back.1
