You must be feeling a lot better than you did 24 hours ago OP!
Good to hear you got it sorted and hope you can carry on with what you're doing in reducing your debt0 -
Great to see that the OP has got herself sorted. Good to see that banks can be very helpful institutions which some of us have been saying for some time.
Then I read:
Martin has had a truly great idea and pursues it with vigor, humor and A GREAT DEAL OF SHOUTING. ;-) He's an all round great guy, but .....
he is above all a business man; a very good one ... he is not doing this in the spirit of anything other than an excellent business proposition!
This is not to attack him, this is to remind all what he is doing and I'm pleased that he is doing so well.
Think he likes helping people too. Its just that he has found a way to help people and earn a tidy living from it....... Cant be bad........:D0 -
Really pleased the OP has this sorted, I do think some people on here have been extremely harsh, yes many of us have debts but how would we feel if all our creditors suddenly demanded the full amounts back instead of the monthly instalments as agreed?, I'm sure many of us would panic as the OP did
I certainly feel although I am slowly paying off my debts, if my bank suddenly withdrew my overdraft with no notice rather than allowing me to pay it back bit by bit (which I am doing) I would get myself in a state about it, although I appreciate that wouldn't help matters
we can't all magic up a few thousand just out of thin air you knowTotal unsecured debt July 08 - £46, 311.88

Glad to see good eventually prevailed over evil!!!! I was beginning to think everyone on here was judgmental and lacking in any social skills whatsoever! Glad to see it was just a minority that just clubbed together to pick on someone whilst they were down, and that the majority came along and put a stop to it!
OP - so glad you got it sorted! I'd be up sh*t creek if this happened to me. Also thankyou for highlighting this as an issue, its made me more aware!0 -
Weired or what?
Don't you ever consider that the original action that the bank took was to jolt the OP into accepting her true position and get her in the branch? Sometimes, kindness gives the wrong results, as in this case. A bolt from the blue has awakened the OP to the real problem just as intended.
No one was being unkind or picking on anyone here, but being honest. That is what we should all try to do.0 -

Do you just read the bits you want and ignore the rest?
The OP clearly stated in her first post that they are in the process of dealing with thier debts! And surely that is the reason she is on this website in the first place?
If that was the banks intention then all they needed to do was to wirte to her giving her a month to find funds, then she could have have had a chance to get sorted.
Honestly, i'm not sure what planet people like you live on, but its certainly not the same one most of us struggle by on.0 -
Obviously we are 'on a different planet' as I manage my finances the way they should be managed. "A borrower nor a lender be" is a good motto to live by. Don't be so hateful because you have gotten yourself in the mess you find yourself in.0

It's a shame you and the OP are never online at the same time. You have a lot in common and would get on very well I think.0 -
Hi needawayout, please don't disappear off the boards. The harsh posters are in the minority and most people want to support you. I have treated shabbily on some of the boards too but on the whole most people are lovely, especially on DFW board. Don't let the b*ggers get you down, it is very brave of you to post - don't let a few put you off on your DF journey xxxSecond and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
OP, in your desire to tackle other debts, is it possible that you've neglected your overdraft somewhat? Banks (at least their automatic scoring systems) like to see the account returned to credit regularly, or at least the overdraft reduced substantially for part of the month.
Is it possible for you to restructure your debts/payment due dates etc, and maybe even pay a reduced amount some months, so as to leave a bit of cash in your current account some months to demonstrate some 'overdraft management' to Abbey?
Whilst you may incur a little extra interest on your credit card debts, it might just help your situation with the bank in the long term.0
