I cancelled my auto renewal as soon as I heard about the increase.
I chatted online with one of the MS guys who suggested trying the web version. I tried it, but didn’t really like it, so thought I might have to transfer to the Apple versions - I only use Excel and Word and only for personal stuff, thankfully retired so no need for work options.
On the actual day my subscription was expiring I got an email from MS asking if I was sure, etc. etc. There was a link to check other options and found an offer for a “one-off” purchase at £120, one person/computer only, seemed perfect for me.
I chatted again with a guy from MS, this time in sales. He confirmed that there was no annual subscription, etc. While spending £120 wasn’t great, it seemed better than £90+ every year, so I went ahead. The sales guy even waited while I got it loaded - I’m sure he got commission for the sale, which was the same price as John Lewis.
Sorry for the long post….1 -
Lou117 that's fantastic! Thanks for sharing this! A great deal, one computer only would annoy me though, but as it is perfect for you- a great deal!1

I just changed my subscription to classic as recommended (added joy that I will not have copilot intruding every time I write now!) Before selecting "cancel" I had a notification that I was eligible for 2 extra months free "to explore my Personal subscription". I clicked on this and it showed that my new subscription (at the £84.99 rate) would be postponed by 2 months - but then took me to my VISA verification box to authorise the payment. I got cold feet and went ahead with the cancellation, but does anyone know if I could have accepted the extension but then cancelled before the new renewal date? I'm not bothered enough to revisit now but if anyone else can benefit from 2 months free they may as well know about it ;-)0
