David Lloyd Changing their T&Cs

We too had the 'new set of rules' hidden in with an advert for something at the gym.
Subsequent calls to management did indeed reveal that they applied to new members only.
But the whole David Lloyd customer relations is just a joke.
Our local gym put a notice up saying if we'd like to join a forum to talk to management about the gym, then give your name in at reception.
Walking past reception on the way out - they knew nothing about it. Typical!
And as for having to book EVERY class, then if you book and miss twice, you can't book again for a month...........they're dictators, not friendly people!0 -
Well i'm in the process of leaving DL and it's all turning out to be a bit of a joke.
I handed in my notice letter 3 weeks ago and canceled my DD....I told them in my letter that I would pay the final 3 mths in full once they sent through cancelation confirmation.
I've had the DL debt collectors onto me asking for payment, when I mentioned I am in the process of leaving they said they had no record of it and my letter must have been "lost"
I do a google and it appears that DL have quite a record for "losing" members notice letters.
If they think they are getting more fees beyond the 3 mth notice period due to a "lost letter" they are very much mistaken.
This companies customer service really sucks and quite frankly there are big question marks over its honesty and integrity. Any company that has had the OFT on it's back and forced it to change its contract terms as it is deemed to be unfair is well worth avoiding.
You may be very happy with your DL membership, I was for 7 years.....but when you come to leave I assure you the experience will be most unpleasant. The stupid thing is I only wanted a break in my membership so that I could try other venues.....after this experience I would NEVER re-join DL and would recomend that anyone considering them thinks again.
Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish customer service....shame on you DL.0 -
I'm very confused about the changes. I have only just received a letter about the changes to the charging. I used to pay 3 months in advance, they then changed that to 6 months. Now I see they want a year up-front.
As I see it I pay £110 a month regardles of DD or not. If I decide to pay 12 months in advance will it be £1320 or will I be able to get a discount. There's no mention of a discount in the letter. So I assume my DD would still be £110 a month.
Perhaps someone can clarify.
Many thanks.0 -

Hi,
I have a problem with David Lloyds could you give some advice on what to do?
I had a June 2009 - June 2010 contract with David Lloyd.
I had a shoulder operation in Jan 2010.
I went to David Lloyd in the beginning of April and asked them to freeze my account/Direct Debit for free.
Sales manager asked me to get a letter from my doctor and email him.
I emailed it but they kept on taking money by Direct Debit. So I closed my Direct Debit in June 2010.
I went to see them in July 2010 but they refused to back track my account unless I gave them a copy of my doctors letter email. I gave them a hard copy of my doctors letter.
I could not get hold of the doctors letter email I sent them.
There collection company sent me a letter demanding Direct Debit to be reset or their solicitor will apply to court.
I communicated with the Manager of David Lloyds to come to a agreement.
Manager said she will cancel the July 2010 fee and the collection company fee if I give Direct Debit details and freeze account until Oct 2010. She added that I will need to give 3 months notice to cancel because I have gone over 12 months contract.
I refused and said my account was for 12 months which I have paid for.
She said I did not cancel the account with 1 month notice.
I said I was trying to freeze or close the account.
She said now saying she is leaving the collection agency to deal with it.
Notes:
They want me to pay more than the 12 months contract - I refuse.
They want my Direct Debit details to get more money of me which will also show my consent to a 12 months plus account - I refuse because it would mean a 3 month cancellation notice.
They are trying to say my operation and doctors letter is unimportant.
I have paid them £510 and not used the gym because of the operation - they want me to pay more money.
If I close my account now in August 2010 I beleive I will be liable for the July, August 2010 and 3 months notice = £510 more
What can I do?0 -
Good luck with them, because David Lloyds contracts need to be scrutinised throughly as it is a nightmare getting away from them.
While I can't comment regarding the injury part of your post, I can comment on the 12 months contract.
My 12 months was up in August 2009, but because I told them in September 2009, I wanted to finish I too had to give 3 months notice and my final payment was in January 2010. Absolute madness IMO, I have never ever had a 12 month contract for anything and then had to give 3 months notice, I've always been able to quit virtually instantly once the 12 months has past.
But with David Lloyd's, you do need to give notice within the first 12 months if you want to quit as soon as the 12 months is up. If you go over it, you then do need to give them 3 months notice of your intention to quit.0
