Happy Friday all. Thanks to today’s mission briefing I did tackle something most frightening indeed… the spare room is our Room of Doom. It was supposed to be a workspace for my husband but it has become a dump. It is horrifying.I only had 30 mins but I opened the windows (had to climb over things to get to them…) for the first time in what must be many months and after decluttering I did a first pass with a damp cloth over the frames and sills to remove the black, the dust, the cobwebs, the dead spiders and all manner of other disgusting stuff!
One small step towards reclaiming our house.8 -
Get well soon vibes for all those who are ill.
A very restless night; although Eowyn wasn't affecting us as much as some, it was very wild and windy.
Mr N is going home tomorrow and I'm hoping to go in convoy, so lots of frantic activity today.
- I went to visit Mum, taking with me 4 pairs of shoes for her to try, 1 meerkat toy, 1 photobook and a few other things I've unearthed.
- Mr N took another 2 large boxes to the charity shop.
- We did another tip run, stopping at Mr A on the way back to get tonight's dinner and some fruit.
- I've now finished sorting 2 cupboards and a space under the stairs. Vacuumed that area and wiped all shelves.
- Sorted, rationalised and consolidated all cleaning materials following yesterday's box under the stairs and a whole cupboard devoted to laundry tablets, cleaning fluids, dw salt, a million j-cloths, dusters etc. Got all the 'essential for cleaning until house has new owners' stuff on one shelf in the kitchen and packed duplicates to take home.
- went through all food cupboards, threw away ood stuff and packed what I'd take home. One small shelf of items left for DB to decide if he wants it. Vacuumed and wiped shelves.
- Mr N packed the dinner set I am taking home. His car is now totally full. We've gradually packed most of the items I'm taking home (way more than I expected, although some is just to sort at home and move on).
- Gave ndn the largest of mum's orchids; I think I'm down to the last 3 now. Also gave her a streptocarpus - she was very emotional.
- Can't really itemise much else other than what looked like a jumble sale a couple of days ago is now looking like and almost empty house, apart from main furniture. I was just feeling fairly confident that it would be how I wanted it to be by tomorrow until we remembered the upstairs landing cupboards - 2 shelves in each of 4 cupboards. Quick investigation revealed photo albums, scrap books and teaching resources (like me, Mum taught literacy and ESOL for a while). Disappointing but some are quick fixes like the resources which can be recycled. Mr N says do that cupboard tomorrow, it doesn't matter what time we leave. But I'd hoped tomorrow would be a final tidy and vacuum, loading my car (which will be a major challenge) then a visit to mum, maybe even time for a swim. Oh well.
Went for a walk down to the beach, wild foamy waves, very spectacular.
Long phone call with DB to report where I'd got to.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.10 -
Don’t know what todays list was but my bedroom got level 3 attention including cleaning the window and vacuuming the headboard. Made sense to do it today as I change bedding on Fridays.
Tidied around, put meds away, mine and mums which I picked up yesterday as I order mine to be ready when hers are, though her are every 4 weeks and mine every 8.
Birthday card posted for great niece who shares DD’s birthday. DD’s gifts wrapped and card written.
We’ve not really had much wind at all, been quite breezy. We were on amber though.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Morning all xx
Is it safe to come out? 👀 Tears and much ado at TT - not mine thank goodness, but boy am I glad that week is done. Claps hands together 👏to shake off the week and steps forward into the weeeeekeeeennnd. And breathe.
I'm up, made my bed, completed Strands with two hints (both for the same word - never heard of it!), completed Wordle in five, completed Connections with two lives lost, caught up with the thread, taken my meds, turned over the calendars, removed 'past it' fruit from bowl and binned it, and supped two brews.
Thank goodness for Roundtuit's Saturdailies - no decision making required 😊

Morning all. Hope you're doing okay.
We had a brief power cut last night which I wasn't even sure if I'd imagined it as there were just beeps and flashes. Anyway I looked at the clock, still on and alarm set for DH and decided I had imagined it and went back to sleep. However the power surge/ cut had pushed the clock forward 15 minutes so DH was up earlier than required but I didn't even notice until going on Facebook this morning and seeing that most of our village has had no power since last night. Must reset the clock.
DH came back from paid stuff and weekly shopping trip with hot cross buns so I've just had one of those toasted. Yum.
No real plans today although I expect to briefly see all the family and dailies will get done.
Wordle in five.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.9 -
Morning, all. I'm glad to get up to a more peaceful day weather-wise and we have power again (power went off at lunchtime yesterday and must have come on at some point during the night, thanks and respect to the engineers out in that weather). I hope everyone managed to stay safe yesterday.
It's a slightly different plan for me today as I am off to see Strictly Live Tour tonight, so a day off from the house makeover.
My list for today
Take the dog for a long walk
Skip is getting collected this morning
Print hotel paperwork for tonight
Print uni work for next week
Sort out the laundry as the machine was on when the power went off yesterday DH had put the machine on this morning when he got up as the power was back on so all laundry has been done.
Make sure tickets are saved on my phone for tonight
Check around outside for storm damage - A bit more than I first thought but not too bad, nothing that needs to be done straight away so will be tasks for tomorrow.
Sort Mr T's order for delivery tomorrow
Have a shower and pamper myself for tonight
Pack stuff for overnight
Take the dog to the kennels, for her overnight stay
Travel to overnight accommodation and check-in
Go to Strictly and have a well-deserved (even if I do say so myself) evening off.
I think that is everything that I need to do today. I hope everyone has a lovely Saturday.

I've also filled the birdbath, thrown out my old work trousers, put a pair of holey socks in the rag bag, and flushed the outside loo which I haven't stepped into for years 😳 And have never used. 😳
To Do Today List
Put bleach down outside loo
Pops phoned me from Benidorm. What a difference a week makes. This time last week he was in intensive care and we'd been told to expect the worst. This morning he is sitting on the balcony reading his newspaper 😍.
Right, pots next

Hope you’re ok Kaz and that the glasses can be fixed.
It’s been a slowly pottering kind of day, after a late start. I have done wm x 2, then made the most of the sunshine by spending some time in the very warm gh, then filling the green bin with rotten tree branches from the garden. I have sorted out the fridge and listed what I need to get into the meal plan. - veg heavy due to DH’s inability to return from the market anything less than fully laden.I have set some bread dough to prove, long and slow, baking tomorrow. I am still trying to replicate the Italian style bread that I used to be able to make. It’s getting better but not always what I’m aiming for. Maybe this one will be The One.This afternoon, I have a date with my sewing machine to get the sleeves put in the top that I’m making.9
