I’m a FWH and we get absolutely inundated with salad bags, bread etc, hopefully it was a communication mishap and not your FWH using the opportunity to shift all the unrequested items onto you!1

What fun! If you didn't already have guinea pigs, I suspect you'd need to get them just to help out with the salad!
I've just looked into our local Olio - there seems to be someone who gets vast quantities of bread from one particular supermarket and another supermarket lists their yellow-stickered items, but so far it's not been things I'd particularly use. You've encouraged me to keep an eye on it though - it seems such a shame when items go to waste if someone can use them.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Did you know you can make "pesto" with salad leaves? Recipe here: https://oursouthend.wordpress.com/2018/03/20/salad-bag-pesto-9p-vg-v-df-gf/
Might be worth a go as you can probably freeze it once made.

Oh it was definitely the latter but I don’t mind with salad bags as anything we don’t use I can just add to my wormery. There’s not much that can’t be eaten by someone in our house! 😁BestnamesRgone said:I’m a FWH and we get absolutely inundated with salad bags, bread etc, hopefully it was a communication mishap and not your FWH using the opportunity to shift all the unrequested items onto you!End ofSep-25Oct-25Brother 7,800.00 7,650.00 Overdraft owed 0.00 0.00 MBNA CC 11,481.53 11,504.06 Barclaycard CC 9,662.17 9,558.10 Fluid CC 1,046.44 1,036.29 NatWest CC 11,705.36 11,693.03 Aqua 1,127.94 1,107.94

Defo keep looking @Cherryfudge ! I’ve found it is all about timing. The good things get posted, requested and disappear all within a couple of minutes, then there tends to just be lots of bread left. The key is to work out when your local FWH’s tend to list and then sit on the app frequently pulling down to get the list to refresh. Mine tend to list from 9pm onwards and then it is like a race for the good stuff. dd2 likened it to the last few seconds on an ebay auction and got thoroughly excited when she ‘won’ something, although equally amazed and appalled at just how much food was going to waste (as am I). I mean my sofa full was just a fraction of what was listed as we only request items we think we will genuinely like - many, many more items were listed and we did not request.Cherryfudge said:What fun! This is absolutely amazing, thank you! It would never have occurred to me to make pesto out of salad leaves and I am intrigued as to what that tastes like. Now I just need some lemon juice. 😁joedenise said:Did you know you can make "pesto" with salad leaves? Recipe here: https://oursouthend.wordpress.com/2018/03/20/salad-bag-pesto-9p-vg-v-df-gf/

Not tried it myself and never have salad leaves over - a bag only lasts us a couple of days! Let us know if it's good. Might even be worth picking up some YS leaves if it is!1

We quite often have salad leaves left over - I just freeze the rest of the bag, flattened down to save space. I can then use it in place of spinach in curry or casserole. I remember doing a 'using things up' soup like this which my husband said was really nice - but I can't easily recreate something when it was a random finish-up of green crumbs!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Our local supermarkets often have lemons or limes marked down - they keep well in the fridge or can be cut into wedges and frozen.EatingBeans said:Now I just need some lemon juice. 😁I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Honestly, it never occurred to me to freeze salad leaves. I guess I just assumed they would turn to complete mush and be useless for anything. I have quite a full freezer now so not sure how much I will manage to save but I will certainly squeeze a bag or three into the freezer to see how they turn out.End ofSep-25Oct-25
