Thanks all!
Interview all done and dusted. 🎉
I came out and thought of a million things I had forgotten to say but I did give full answers for every question so I don’t think it went too badly. I think it will come down to how well the other did in comparison. They confirmed that the top scorer will be offered the permanent role and the second place will be offered the secondment. One also let slip about who interviewed before me - it was the guy I thought - i.e. the guy who took over from me on my last project. I asked if they were recruiting for a particular project (as I know the gap for the permanent role is currently on that guy’s project), and they said they don’t envision changing what people are working on as it would be difficult to switch at the moment. That’s good in the sense that I didn’t want to change but it does very much sound like that guy is being put into the permanent role!My question is how we can all be left doing exactly what we are all currently doing and yet two get a substantial payrise and the other one does not! Surely we are either working to the higher grade or we are not. Seems to me that the work we do has no bearing on our salary, rather it totally comes down to how we interview! 🙄End ofDec-24Jul-25Brother 5,400.00 8,100.00 Overdraft owed 1,349.90 - MBNA CC 10,534.20 12,073.22 Barclaycard CC 9,667.21 9,725.88 Fluid CC - 712.50 NatWest CC 12,018.14 12,171.46 Aqua - 342.08 Total debt 38,969.45 43,125.14 Paid off in the month - 4,638.17 Total paid off 2025 - 4,155.69 3 -
I REEAAALLLLY want a chippy. 😞 I swear I must be low on salt or something because I’ve been craving chippy chips for days.I am trying to be good but it’s really hard as I am so tired after the interview this morning and then a full on busy work day in the afternoon.Lots of chips, chocolate, wine and sleep is what I really want. 😬End ofDec-24Jul-25

Fingers crossed you get the job you want 🤞
Could you make your own chips and bung some salt and vinegar on them to help quell the urge?I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2 -
It’s not just any chips I fancy, it’s proper chippy chips sadly. 😕
I mostly resisted - I just had a frozen pizza instead - but I did pop into tescos and buy some chocolate. The water I had with it wasn’t quite as nice as the wine that I fancied but it was definitely cheaper! I’m calling it a win after the day I had. 🙂End ofDec-24Jul-25Brother 5,400.00 8,100.00 Overdraft owed 1,349.90 - MBNA CC 10,534.20 12,073.22 Barclaycard CC 9,667.21 9,725.88 Fluid CC - 712.50 NatWest CC 12,018.14 12,171.46 Aqua - 342.08 Total debt 38,969.45 43,125.14 Paid off in the month - 4,638.17 Total paid off 2025 - 4,155.69 2 -
I think you should allow yourself the chips in one of the following situations:
- You get the job: congratters, let's celebrate with chips!
- You don't get the job: commiserations, have some chips.

I was doing so well! Then today happened, and after the very long stressful week, it seems it was the final straw. Serious fatigue set in and takeaways were had. 😞So today was GCSE results day. This time last year dd2 received her shock fail of English language (3) and only got a 4 in Maths Higher when she needed a 5 to study the subjects she wanted to do at A level. She made the courageous decision to opt for a resit year rather than sit A levels that weren’t her first choice, all of us confident that it was just a blip. She retook English during the year and passed no problem, Maths she retook and got another 4 (Foundation this time-there were bits in the paper she had never been taught so not really a surprise), but then every single Maths mock she has done all year has been a 5 (5 is the top grade possible for Foundation). Noone expected her to get anything less than a 5 this time around (I should have known better given the stress of last year!), but omg, she opens it at 9am and she got one mark below a 5! 😱 Technically this means she forfeits her place on the course she has worked a whole extra year for! As you can imagine, she was beside herself. So, despite the fact that work is still deciding if I get the promotion, and the fact that I had promised faithfully to get an important piece of work done before I break for annual leave at the end of the day, by 9:10am I found myself asking to take the day as annual leave. 😞 I mean they said yes, obviously, but it can’t have helped my case. I just have to hope they look past it. 🤞
I would love to say we have dd2’s plans all now resolved but I’d be lying. The paper is being requested to assess if it could be remarked and her Maths teacher has promised to argue her case, but the reality is, her enrolment appointment isn’t until 1pm tomorrow (near the end of the enrolment slots), and there is a very real risk that the places will all be full by the time she gets to make her case. I am not sure who is more stressed - dd2 or me! I feel like it is all my fault because I was so confident it would just be a form filling exercise that I told her it would be fine to choose a later slot. Now if she doesn’t get in that decision is going to haunt me.I was supposed to be going to my brother’s to sort out my own exam resit but that hasn’t happened because for the first time in weeks I have had that crushing fatigue hit me again. I had to go back for a nap and have really struggled to get up again. Making food was just impossible so my bank balance took a hit. 😭
I am really hoping that a good night sleep will be enough for me to bounce back and that the cough I have developed over the past few days is just a coincidence rather than another sign that it is all coming back. 🤞 I can’t be ill again, I just can’t.End ofDec-24Jul-25Brother 5,400.00 8,100.00 Overdraft owed 1,349.90 - MBNA CC 10,534.20 12,073.22 Barclaycard CC 9,667.21 9,725.88 Fluid CC - 712.50 NatWest CC 12,018.14 12,171.46 Aqua - 342.08 Total debt 38,969.45 43,125.14 Paid off in the month - 4,638.17 Total paid off 2025 - 4,155.69 1 -
