We lost my cat last year aged 14 so she was here when my dog arrived.  My dog is now 42kg of bouncy white fluff and at 5 shows no sign of slowing down ! I’ve just this week put feelers out for 2 kittens and anticipate we will have an upstairs downstairs arrangement too until they get used to each other.

Ah bless, I am sorry for your loss @dawnybabes  😢

What breed of dog do you have? I was trying to picture it in my head but struggling to think of something that heavy but also that fluffy and white at 5. You must really have your hands full either way!

At least if you have two kittens they can keep each other company if you end up with an upstairs/downstairs arrangement. 😁

Mine all moved out - then DS1 and his partner sold their house but were waiting for a new build that got delayed a few months, so rather than lose the sale, they came in with us. Shortly after they moved out, DD and her partner's tenancy came to an end, so guess who they moved in with? All this time DS2 was with us, but at some point he had left to go to Uni, which lasted a year before he changed course and came back to us while training to do something else...

So they might move out, but they might also move back bringing others!

All are now homeowners in their own right so perhaps we should move in with one of them? :D

Love the animal 'tails', I hope it's the beginning of better things.
Only just spotted your post @Cherryfudge

Moving back is one thing I had semi-considered, but bringing others! 😱 I definitely never thought about that being an option! I take my 🎩 off to your level of adaptability. Don’t get me wrong, I would always say yes to any of my kids if they needed a roof over their head, but I am also a firm introvert who needs my space. I like people, and I am not shy, but I need peace and quiet to recharge. The thought of the kids bringing back almost strangers to live with me, fills me with dread. dd1 has had a bf for over a year and whilst he’s welcome and has occasionally stayed over, I do insist on advance warning. No, no, no, to the thought of him living with us. Not unless I had at least one room in the house that was mine only. And a door with a lock! Or maybe a room at the bottom of the garden… 🤔 ok, this post has got a bit off track!

My post being, your post got me thinking. And I did genuinely lol at the thought of you moving in with one of your kids! 😂 I had visions of you just showing up on their doorstep with a suitcase in each hand. Haha

    What a gorgeous dog!

And a further explanation about the shared house: the first couple to share with us are very private people and somehow managed to be self-effacing for months. I worked shifts so I was often out when they were in, and vv. DH was also working full time but they made their room their total home. I can only remember once when I came in and DDiL was in the lounge, but that was when her friend was going through a crisis and she was supporting her. The next couple are very gregarious and we enjoyed their company but they weren't with us as long, and DS2 is the sort of person who likes to stay in his room, though there was one occasion he had a big row with his sister. I wasn't there but heard about it from her partner, who was, I think, quite alarmed. Some siblings need space from each other and DD can be ferocious!

But basically I felt privileged that I'd had the chance to get to know my children's partners so much better: they are my other children now. :)

Perhaps I should have those suitcases packed and book myself in for holidays with them all!
