congratulations, is there any hybrid working at all or is it just one day in the office per week ?

I’d continue with the UC claim, of nothing else you might get a few weeks of it, and if horrors of horrors you need to reapply it’s all up to date.

Thank you all for your ideas! I really did take on board what you all said and had a good think. I looked back at the two jobs and compared the benefits of each, then went with my gut… I am not going to interview. 😬 I fully understand where you are all coming from and if they were both permanent jobs I would probably have gone to the interview but they are not. The one I have been offered is a permanent job doing something slightly different (more interesting), driving south (i.e. warmer), has better sick leave, they seem very flexible and suggested some weeks I would not need to be in the office at all, the sick leave is better and the pay will be more. The other job would mean driving an hour and a half north (colder), would be doing exactly as I was doing (chaos sounding), is only a year long contract and pays less. I know it will be a crazy long commute and the winter may well be a challenge but I get the sense they would be flexible with me staying at home if I need to and a B&B isn’t out of the question. Given that both girls will have likely left home in just over 12months time I am also thinking that if I find I like it I can also use the trips down there as an opportunity to scout at new places I might want to move to. Absolutely no chance I would move north due to the cold triggering the pain in my face, so south seems like a good plan. If I find I hate it then I can just continue looking for a new job but will be employed in the meantime. I feel excited about the job I have been offered and they have very kindly agreed for me to start in early August so I can still spend some quality time with my girl’s and celebrate dd2’s 18th birthday, so interviewing will just throw up more questions that don’t need to be there. I feel happy with that decision but still thank you all for your comments as it really helped me think it through. 😁

Glad we all helped, sounds like absolutely the best decision for a whole variety of reasons. Take a day or two holiday after your in office day every so often and you'll have a great chance to properly explore the various new surroundings

Unlike the second interview, I did attend for the UC appointment today. As instructed I printed off my bank statements for all of my bank accounts but when I got there the very nice lady didn’t know how to process them. She tried to phone a friend and walked the building to try and locate a manager but in the end she just asked me to leave them with her. I did ask if it was even worth doing since I am on ESA and I am due to start a new job on 10th Aug but she seemed to think it was and I should probably get a payment out of it so I left it with her. Any extra money will be a bit more off debt so fingers crossed. 🤞

Now if it could just please cool down a bit I could get on with finishing the van. Yesterday I sat in it for 5 minutes to make templates of the windows so I can make some blinds but it was so hot after just 5 minutes it drained every bit of energy from me. With the door open it was ok and the insulation managed to keep me feeling like I was sat in the shade rather than a tin box (the van is in full sun), but as soon as I shut all the doors the sun coming through the windscreen rapidly heated the air inside and every inch of me broke out in sweat like someone had flipped a switch. Lesson learned about how fast the van will heat in sunshine - something to think about when parking up for the night to sleep! 😬
