I am a carer for my Mom and as she's not digital she gives me the money for her groceries in a cheque from time to time.
Due to her age she doesn't always bear hard on the cheque, this particular one will not go through the photo process part.
I'll take it in later this week but as its been 'declined' (wrong word) by Nat West and Santander, should I take it to one of those?
It will be fine at a counter but I wasn't sure if say I took it to Nationwide for instance they would not pass it in the end due to it failing the online attempt.

Over counter will be fine I am sure1

Thankyou. So failing the online attempt doesn't somehow put a block/marker on it?ChirpyChicken said:Over counter will be fine I am sure0 -
Would not imagine so. The app failed to read the cheque, so nothing should be logged. It wasn't a bad cheque (out of date, words and digits mismatch), it simply could not be read. Let us know the outcome in case others hit this issue, thanks![Deleted User] said:

Has your mother put a lasting power of attorney in place? If not that is something she really should do, so you can help manage her finances should lose the capacity to do so.1

No, neither of us are keen on it tbh.Keep_pedalling said:Has your mother put a lasting power of attorney in place? If not that is something she really should do, so you can help manage her finances should lose the capacity to do so.
Mentally she's fine but physically she can't do a lot.
Going digital would solve so much but there is no chance!0 -
Why don't you write the cheque and get your Mum to just sign it with a liquid ink pen. This should solve the illegibility issue

I have thought about that, tbh I thought that might be less likely to go through if it looks obvious its 2 different people writing.tetrarch said:Why don't you write the cheque and get your Mum to just sign it with a liquid ink pen. This should solve the illegibility issue

Thanks though, I might try it next month.0 -
It’s never been an issue, it’s the signature that matters.[Deleted User] said:

I was recommending you do this not for the current situation but for the future when through illness or accident she looses mental capacity. It certainly made my life a lot easier when my mother lost hers and once that happens it is too late to put one in place.[Deleted User] said:
