Ooooh, am feeling all inspired to tackle 🐸ing CoD. OH is out from Friday lunchtime so I've decided to start it then - one shelf at a time, with sit downs &🫖 in between - tbc over the weekend. OoD (ottomon of doom) can wait until another day (it's been lurking for 8 years after all)

El, I feel your pain. Belovéd cleared his mother's house and a lot of that went straight into the attic here over 25 years ago and hasn't ever come down. My parents had a seven bedroom house and a lot of their extraneous gibble went from a barn and the attic in Kent to above the garage on the farm in East Devon, to the cellar at Winchelsea, the attic and cellar at Charing and then up to my attic. In Plymouth. My parents had stuff that had been boxed up in 1974 that hadn't been unboxed until I started on their attic and cellar in oooooh, let's see, 2002? 'Antiques' amongst them. I flung a lot without telling them, and would I do it again? Yes, every time. When the Charing house was sold a lot of stuff went to a house clearance / antique dealer chap appointed by my brother and I knew when the dealer said he'd burnt the kitchen table because no-one wanted it (solid 2" thick pine, about 7' long, 3' wide commissioned for the farmhouse kitchen and was fully occupied at most meals - most stuff gets binned eventually, no matter how good it is. It's taken me over 20 years to get my head around that. The only thing I mind that went - my mother's nutcrackers.Round, that sounds like a plan. Anything at all that you do will make tomorrow a better day. If you're too tired after a day a work please don't beat yourself up. You'll get there.Well done on the flingage Fayolle, especially as we're all in the post-Christmas finishing-up-so-there's-no-wastage period.Kaz, I would sell things if I didn't have to stop and list stuff and deal with incoming calls and messages. Anything that stops me from getting the stuff out of the house, or even delays it, is what I absolutely have to avoid. That's been one of my downfalls for years. If the CSs and Scrapstore can make something from it - hurrah! I've listed stuff over the years and been glad to accept the money but realistically my time is more valuable to me than the money I'd make - at the moment. I love being a pensioner and I don't mind giving back at this stage of my life.So far this morning I've cleared most of the pile from behind my RoD door. The sink was stacked with two pillows (decluttered to the superking), a set of net curtains (rehung), ironing board cover (hung over the ironing board because I will soon be using it - I will, I will, I will), and the three linen tablecloths used at our party on 22nd September that were washed but needing rewashing with Napi$an before I can donate them. If the stains come out they can go to the CS, if they don't they can be donated as linen to the scrapstore. I don't mind either way but they will have to be ironed. The ironing pile and the mending pile are still in the sink but that's progress, and I've decluttered a hat (I like the idea of hats but I look like a gimp in them so what's the point of keeping them? and several DVDs. Not sure the CS will accept them but if not, the tip can have them. Now to walk the dog, help Belovéd with a couple of things he wants dealt with today and then I'm Kondo'ing my tops. Let's spark some joy.Better is good enough.8

It is good to know that it isn't just me. My original (2006 or earlier - it was before we moved here!) sign up to the first flylady threads was because the meter reading man turned up unexpectedly, and I found myself looking at the living room through his eyes and was most ashamed. The littles would have been 2 and 3, and the only reception room was stacked with toys, etc. I started shining my sink that very day, and then chipped away at the rest. Kept on top of it for years until I was ill, and then went back to work five days a week. I am in awe of anyone who works full time, has young children, and a tidy house.
It took him 18 years to fill this house, so I am not going to sort it in a few weeks, just like when you start cleaning properly. For the cleaning I am trying to pick one area a week to deep clean, in between the decluttering.
The last few days I have been watching an episode of Sort Your Stuff Out each evening whilst picking an area to declutter. Today has mostly been the garden stuff though. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

COD top is done. And I wiped down the side and front while I was at it. I'd have taken a before and after picture but I can't upload them to the thread so I didn't.
All that's on there now is my jewellery (which has been put into a jewellery box that I had in a drawer under the bed. Unused.); the two perfumes that I currently wear, and the body lotion that I'm treating my legs to.
Unused perfumes have been put away in a drawer - after taking out two gift packs of hand cream to make room. Gift packs are going to the bird rescue. (I have enough potions and lotions to use up. Don't need more.) There's a pair of ear rings, a necklace, and a brooch to go to cs; a pair of holy socks for the rag bag - removed from drawer to make room for pant liners to be stored; a small box that was housing jewellery has been binned; two boxes that were housing necklaces have been put in the recycling...necklaces are now in jewellery box; physio exercises for my shoulder will be filed; safety pins and rubber band going into the misc kitchen drawer.
A small step for mankind, a giant leap for Round. 😉
I have two nighties that are only fit for rags. I bought replacements months ago. Those two nighties are going to be torn up for rags so I simply can't wear them again.
But first I'm going to read / photo the gas meter before it's replaced by a smart meter.

HB I can't (or don't want to!) imagine having to do multiple houses. It was so difficult sorting FIL's stuff. Mostly audio/visual - all good quality because he worked in AV/film/theatre type jobs. Sadly, even though it was top of the range stuff and built to last forever, nobody wants huge dark brown radios/speakers/vhs/projectors or 800 VHS tapes of things taped from telly 50 years ago (since been skipped, apart from family videos). Even the CS say they cant shift it.
We tried to give away projectors & whatnot but no luck. As it's FIL's stuff, it's up to OH to bite the bullett & get rid one way or another. Even BIL recently asked why OH is keeping it all - seems to sink in a bit more if it's not me saying it to him 😤
Sorry to unload (declutter my mind?) - will finish this coffee & get back to flying

Pheew.. thank goodness for you guys 😮💨
Took 10 mins out with a cuppa before I exploded with 🤬😤🤬
OH is having a stressful time at work, they’re just not listening to him.. The stress then eek into the house (he works from home) and I’m afraid I may just lose my plot with everyone.. so I came away to read the thread!
firstly ((hugs)) to Narco, my grandparents were my world and when their possessions needed to be cleared I almost broke myself physically and mentally trying to fit their world into mine.. I have since learned that, for me, I only need the odd trinket with a real core memory attached (his hat/gardening jumper, a glass bowl, my nana’s glass snail and great grans old recipe book)Round, you’ve always inspired me with your determination, you’ve accomplished so much in the last few years, let alone the fact if you losing nearly 50lbs!! That in its self is no easy task.. 🥇
Mount washmore has been tackled.. 3 x loads done, 2 tumbled as bedding/towels.. 1 x load on airer by dehumidifier..
Kitchen s/s and air fryer de-gibbled 😳🤢 (DS2 had cooked goodness knows what in it!)
Bathroom s/s.. grumpity that the pain it bleeding with condensation.. needs a good wash down and re-paint..
Anyhoo.. thank you for restoring my sanity.. 💐"There's a little witch in all of us"🔮🪬🧿DEBT FREE 06/2018Mrs SD’s Decluttering 2025 ⭐️ 🥇9
