Mark my words eBay will soon be finished with all this new nonsense.
RIP eBay.
Remember when managed payments came in a few years back that was the nail in the coffin according to several people , yet eBay turnover went up. Before that we had FVFs being charged on p and P, we even had a semi regular on here who said they had absolute proof that it was illegal and if it went ahead ebay would basically be dead, that wasn’t the case. Even things like removing the sellers ability to leave negatives was prophesied as being the end for them….the list goes on.
I suspect that at some point in the future online sales generally might die, but I can’t see ebay as an entity dying any time soon.
The reviews for eBay UK lately are horrendous !

Little bit of critical thinking (along with actually reading available information about policies old and new) would go a long way.0 -

Trust Pilot - can they be trusted? — MoneySavingExpert Forum
Notwithstanding the issues around Trustpilot, you should understand that the majority of satisfied customers don't bother to write a review.
It's the people who have a complaint - and some are valid, some aren't - that tend to post reviews.
I've had very good experiences with Vinted and eBay.
I've never written a review to say so.
The only think I can see affecting me going forward is the cost of postage.
It's hard to sell a Next dress for £3.00 when adding the postage on more than doubles the price.
Maybe if my eBay sales stop selling, I might move over to Vinted as their 'click & collect' is around £2.29.
I use RM Tracked 48 on eBay.
Your posts are beginning to sound like sour grapes.1 -
Trustpilot reviews as a guide to how well a business is doing, really?
I think the issue here is us 'old timers' who have been selling for decades work with trends and new ideas/schemes rather than ignore the actual announcements and rely entirely on panicked posts from those who don't know how to adapt or even read the announcements.
I do realise these changes are for private sellers, but I think anyone who has sold as a business would also have the ability to analyse the changes and work out what is best for them, otherwise every time a Government made tax changes, or schemes come and go no business would survive.
Over the years I have changed sites, business models etc over and over again. What i started selling as a private seller on ebay (and some now long gone sites) in the late 1990s gave me the idea for a business which I set up. That market died so I changed direction, went to Amazon for a few years selling books, did very well on there. but the book market died completely for me, so I moved on selling on etsy, Ebay and Amazon. It was then I took out life time membership of ebid.
I had issues with ID on Amazon so gave up there as it wasn't really a good fit for my stock. Etsy did well for a while, until the vintage market dried up - but ebay has kept me consistently in profit, albeit it with entirely different stock models over the past 30 years. It has been my one consistent site.
Perhaps that ability to work through changes, work out how best to suit them to my own model - accept that some items might never sell - is what enables me to keep going.
Even things like the buyers premium on private sales meant I adjusted how I sold on my private account, instead of low cost listings , I either charity shopped some things or made some larger lots out of existing items to make the overall cost look attractive to a buyer.
However it all goes back to the fact that no one 'has' to sell online, donating items to charity is a perfectly acceptable thing to do, there is no compulsion to turn everything into cash. people do car boots, I hated doing them, but I accept it works for a lot of people, I just accept it isn't for me. I just happen to like seeing some of my stored 'treasures' actually making me money which allows me to do things that perhaps I would otherwise not be able to afford.
One say if I stop enjoying it, or the markets change again in a direction in which I have no interest, I might stop. Until then I'll happily take money in and enjoy myself.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Tell you what... I'll leave you pro-eBay people to it.
eBay's now a sinking ship and I'm so glad I'm not selling on there anymore.
It's now a pure Dictatorship and money grabbing platform with no regards for anyone but themselves.
eBay is Nothing like it was before and those Trustpilot reviews are 100% right - All these real people are telling it exactly as it is ! - They feel let down by what eBay have now done and are disgusted in eBay's attitude towards private sellers now.

Just vote with your feet.
I just don't understand the people who aren't happy with eBay and seem to want to convince the people who are happy with eBay that the company is 'sinking' by relying on a review website that a lot of people don't seem to trust.2 -

It's a public forum with a specific eBay/Vinted etc board where people ask questions and discuss issues & changes. Not just eBay but other selling platforms and couriers.
It has been very helpful to me in the past.
That eBay is NOT a bed of roses is your opinion (and maybe a few other posters).
It is NOT my opinion - and not the opinion of a greater number of posters.
I 100% echo Spoonie_Turtle's post. 👋3
