SIM only with extra data not specified in contract

I have had a SIM only monthly contract with ID Mobile for several years. Every few years I discuss moving to a contract with more data included but at the same £7 per month.

This mornings discussion should have been easy I was trying to update from 20GB to either 40GB or 50GB. They first said the best I would get was 30GB and I said that Carphone Warehouse were offering 40GB. Unless I am mistaken the new customer only rule for both Carphone Warehouse and ID Mobile had been relaxed in the preceding few days for 40GB. After a delay of several minutes I was offered a 30GB contract with an extra 20GB added on each month but not specified in the contract.

What is going on here? Even if I get the 'secret' extra 20GB will it last forever and will it rollover as usual at the end of each month?

Has anybody else had experience of this and if so are there any drawbacks?

Did you ask this question to the salesperson who offered it?

I'm on something similar with Vodafone. 50GB Red with an extra 20GB specified on the plan details.

I actually get 120GB each month which is what was specified when I took out the contract w/ mobiles.co.uk.

There does seem to be plenty of leeway for adding "additional" data (or other features like roaming) at the setup of contracts. The advertised plans can be seen as starting points for negotiation. Just make sure that all details are documented in the agreement that's offered to you.
