Yeah, not surprising at all! eBay's been gradually increasing fees for a while now. It’s frustrating how they keep chipping away at private sellers' profits. That extra £0.75 on top of the 4% feels like they’re really squeezing every penny. Makes you wonder if it's still worth selling there sometimes!
This doesn’t effect private sellers profits (and as mentioned private sellers shouldn’t be thinking about profit anyway) - caveat obviously in theory could sell less

I've stepped away from eBay for a while, because I don't see how their "buyer protection" tallies with their endorsement of selling counterfeits (I've reported items and been told they found nothing wrong with the item, escalated, spoken to people and the counterfeits are still there).
I did have a quick look and there seemed to be items listed at round numbers plus a bit more, so I'm not sure sellers are reducing their prices to factor in the buyers fees.

Just seen that all the kind of things I buy on there have now gone up £1 - £2 overnight.

Today I've sold a few things on a Facebook selling group that I would have previously stuck on eBay. They sold within the hour and no fees for me or the buyer.

    I'm done with eBay.

Most Facebook groups that I use regularly insist on PayPal for goods being posted to avoid scammers, so I can’t avoid fees there either.

Not if it's against the rules of the Facebook group.  And in my experience Facebook mods aren't hesitant to ban people who break the rules of their group.

Most groups I use see that as the mark of a scammer , and that’s why they insist on g and s only. I certainly wouldn’t be buying with F and F if buying from a site on FB. PayPal even warn you about it being unsafe and that’s why it is termed friends and family, if you buy something it should be goods or services.

Depends on the group. Plant sellers flogging stuff out of their greenhouse don't tend to be scammers, for example.

You might be surprised , possibly not people selling sub £5 plants but one of the biggest scamming areas a few years back was second hand baby equipment and clothes . Victims always said how lovely the other mum was, how they exchanged a few emails about their respective babies and felt comfortable doing a bank transfer or paypal F and F .

There would of course also be the issue that selling on plants is technically a business, but I suspect for the small amounts involved no one is going to be particularly worried.

Never use F&F to pay someone who isn't your friend or family (the clue is in the name).
