Coxy11 said:I’m away for the weekend visiting friends and we went to Lady Heyes antique centre in Frodsham yesterday. So much crystal glass and many bone china dinner services, plus Denby - all at amazing prices. Didn’t get to stop at Frodsham but looked to be a few good CS’s.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

We went to a talk at Westminster last night and we got the train back from Waterloo this morning. I had a quick look in a charity shop called Hospices of Hope. I found a red cardigan in there. It was very warm yesterday, but winter will be coming soon.9

Hello! Just catching up as I have been away sunning myself in Greece. No charity shops there... one day I must do a deep-dive into why they are such a peculiarly English thing (I know also to be found in the US and Australia) - do other countries have them? Do I need to plan my holidays more strategically?
Speaking of strategy @Coxy11 glad you had a decent day in Colchester. I surmise you might be in North Essex/Suffolk borders - I am in Cambridgeshire, on the borders of Essex and Suffolk! I haven't been to Woodbridge but might go on a jaunt one day. I'm close to Saffron Walden (the holy grail of CS towns), Newmarket (quirky and good) and Ely (tons and tons of shops and usually very good).
@Potternerd I LOVE that white Maeve dress. Could have done with it last week! @Miro I am tickled by you having a handbag just for the rain! A whole new level of organisation...
Anyway. Today I had a trip to nearest town, which has 3 charity shops. I was DELIGHTED to find a footstool - I've been wanting to get one for winter for ages and have been eyeing up ones online for between £2-400 a go. Today in Save the Children they had one in the window in a nice sage green for FIFTEEN POUNDS. I'm so pleased as I really didn't want to spend £200 on a decent one and then conclude it was the wrong height etc. etc. So even if this one doesn't work for me I haven't lost out. But I think it will be good.
Also snared a John Lewis Anyday jumper - oversized, turtle-neck and perfect for the colder months (£7.99) and a pretty gold top - sort of laced flowers with a gold camisole underneath. There is a size label but no actual label so origins are frustratingly shrouded in mystery, but never mind.8 -
This last week I’ve called into charity shops in Ludlow, Leominster, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, Bromyard & Ledbury and only found one item to buy ☹️. A pair of as new black Autograph trousers in a Merino wool and silk mix fabric for £6 from an independent chazza in Bromyard. Overall prices seemed similar to ‘Oop North’ but the quality and condition was not impressive as far as clothing goes…mostly Primark and supermarket brands and lots of bobbly jumpers and worn collars ☹️ I guess the good stuff ends up on Vinted etc?
Many thanks to @Frith for the info, loved Hereford, (Bill’s Kitchen…yum!)10 -
On holiday in Lisbon this year they had just started having charity shops - we couldn’t find it 😭😭Sealed pot challenge 822

@Miró I also had a disappointing holiday trip years ago to Hay on Wye for charity shops. Thought they would be great, but really not.
Just by chance I saw the top I bought today on Vinted - it's from Boden! https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/7219923806-boden-ladies-top?homepage_session_id=eae71c51-930e-451b-aa50-11a7fa39cfde8 -

@Magpie100 - I like the Boden top but have to wonder at the prices Boden charges for its merchandise given that the production costs (Made In China) are low.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -
@Rosa_Damascena I completely agree. One reason I would never buy anything new from them, the other being I really despise Johnny Boden!9
