I took a walk along Barkingside High Street early this morning, had to take a couple of pics as the CRUK prices were off the scale:

Many of the most expensive charity shops by us have stopped taking donations as they have too much stock. I’m not surprised because I don’t think they are selling the volume of stuff because it is priced so high. Well worn and washed out fat face top for £7.50 for example. I wish we had some of the cheaper charity shops8

Crikey @Rosa_Damascena that seems a bit over enthusiastic pricing. I was balking at the BHF here in the summer where every dress, was £9. Some were Primarni ones that you could buy cheaper new. It doesn't encourage people to buy secondhand.
There was an interesting programme on You & Yours Radio 4 this week, asking people to call in about where they went for affordable fashion. Some interesting charity shoppers called in."Think of many things, do one"

Dresses are £14-16 pounds in some of our local charity shops8

I'm baffled by the prices. The only charity shop I really go to is the local village one. The most expensive dress there is around £5 or if really posh £7 but mostly £2 or £3 and they often do half price sales if they are overstocked.
As a result they have a huge turnover of stock, and, interestingly much higher takings than other charity shops supporting the same charity (sign on wall listed their takings last year). I have learnt that if I see something I buy it because it will not be there the next day! I don't understand the high prices and poor turnover, just does not make sense.
Their view is everything has been donated, lets just sell it quick to make space for tomorrows donations. They code each item and if it is on sale for too long it gets taken by the ragman. (I checked they get paid a teeny tiny amount for this, but, again their view is if it didn't sell, don't leave it sitting there make space for stuff that will)Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!11 -
This is why Vinted is getting so popular. I have had a fantastic week on Vinted and got myself and my mum jackets. Myself some trousers. One pair were brand new with tags at a tenth if not more of the new price. The charity shops in my village are vastly over priced.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. I'm away for a few days next week and am stopping mid-journey in Colchester. Any chazzer highlights/tips gratefully received.
Our local Sc0pe has a £1 rail for anything that has been around a while, but generally the prices are fairly good there anyway. I too don't understand the high pricing for items from Primarni or Shein in particular. Just doesn't make any sense.Cross-stitch WIP: Haberdashery Shop Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 20/25 Currently reading Finding Hildasaay by Christian Lewis10
