Gosh the longest time I haven't updated since starting the diary.
It's been a very odd 10 days tbh and I've been very topsy turvey. Dh has tottered off on his work trip so it's just me holding the fort at home juggling work (s), yoofs, back to school and usual house stuff. September is always crazy work wise for both jobs and not helped with doing 2 weekends this month and dh being away. Still we soldier on.
Theres a saying buses always turn up in 3s - the mortgage deal finalised and was success, the windfall came through and DP sold their house.
This has meant money wise I have cleared the interest bearing loan as a 1st starting point (so yes the £5.93 is no more @rachmac3!!). Gone gone gone never ever to blooming return. Windfall has also cleared dhs (small) CC which I never counted in my figures and he has done a Dave Ramsey and chopped up and binned.
I have temporarily shoved the rest of the Windfall in a bank account at 3% whilst I wrestle with myself about clearing as much of the CCs as possible - currently it comes in at £253.90 short. I'm nervous as we've also yet to have a month following the Budget Day Reshuffle so it's still an unknown if it'll work or not.
Obviously it's Friday so happy weekend - you will NOT BE SURPRISED that I am yet working again ........ however work have said that due to the number of extras I've picked up over the last 10 months they are worried I will hit burnout and would like me to step back to 1 in 7 as per the rota. Tbh I'm ready to do that.

I am a little confused. You mention DH and DP. Are they one and the same person? I am assuming the windfall came from the sale of the other house. Progress on debt reduction looks good if I am reading it correctly.

Sorry dp is dear parent - didn't mean to be obtuse! He's always been very astute with his finances (banking background and very much a Planner) and it could be argued had some slightly complicated arrangements in the past. Whilst we all are hoping he continues in good health for years to come he's decided its time to simplify things and this was part of that. He's had some tricky experiences of dealing with complicated estates in the past and doesn't want that to happen for us!

Definitely not the cheats way out, I'd do the same if I came into some money. Just think of the extra freedom you'll now have.Keep posting, I enjoy reading your diary.3

Ah thanks @flamingo22 I have to say writing everything down as I've plodded along has been quite cathartic even if I do forget that some people do actually read along 🤣
Happy Sunday (or Friday depending on your working week!) My last Sunday for a few weeks and the work pace has definitely picked up as we hit Autumn. The joy of weekend working is limited spending tbh - yesterday I spent the grand total of £1.79 (for a cold drink from the Golden Arches when out and about and a long way from home/office and I needed their facilities ) and spent my Saturday night catching up on the ironing after a homemade fakeaway tea. Totally rock n roll.
Just done my daily bank and pot checks - its pay day this Friday and whilst the normal accounts are running low it still amazes me that I can keep them all in the black and avoid the overdraft. When I look back to 10 months ago I lived the majority of the month overdrawn and by now would be at the OD limit and frantically transferring money around in a panic.
Bit hard to predict what Septs months pay will be as one job I had minimal travel expenses and the other job (with the larger amount) had issues with the expenses systems so I don't think got authorised in time for this months pay run. Still the budget is based on basic pay so any extra is a welcome boost and I'm still.impatient to test the revised budget after the overhaul works.
Have a good Sunday! I'm off to make another cuppa before I have to get up and moving for the day.

That's great news about the windfall.I don't think you're cheating by using the lump sum to pay off your loan and credit cards as you have been reducing your debt for the last 10 months and have learnt some valuable lessons and changed your behaviour towards money. This will set you up for a great financial future.4

Hi congratulations on things coming together. For my 2p worth I would suggest not paying off all your debt if it is at 0%, but sticking that equivalent sum in the highest interest account you can find and then paying off the debt on a monthly basis. This offers you some security and also you won't take your foot off the gas so much if you still have that focus. You could also drip feed some much higher rate regular savers from the lump sum to earn you more interest. Again, you are not spending this money, just getting yourself in a much more secure place.
Good luck with whatever you decide. V x4
