2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD - The Joy of Decluttering
Gosh, this train moves fast! I tried to stick my head out of the window to look at the scenery and I'm 15 pages behind!
Week 2. Still focused. DD and I took a box of items to the charity weekend before last. 5 items from the playroom and 3 items of clothes plus a few other bits. DD also took a big bag of all her old glasses and cases to the lions drop off point. She had never parted with any of them before and she's 20 now.
I'm trying my hardest to finish a bottle of something beauty, but they seem never ending. So it was more samples this week - 4 sachets of a shampoo, cond, serum, mask that I had to try.
I used up 2 OOD sachets of curry flavourings, was a part of a present as I normally just make my own. Chicken bhuna and chana masala made
Decluttering target:
Beauty product - 11/52, last item - bubble bath used while I shaved legs, 2 conditioners sachets from used hair dye boxes
Play room - 41/52, last item -
Clothes - 23/52, last item -
Food - 13/52, last item -
Last October saw the sale of my house fall through and the return of 45 boxes from storage.
Now I thought I’d made a good job of decluttering before I packed but have since got rid of more. It all kind of came to a halt though as I was overwhelmed by the amount of ‘stuff’ having lived without much for 5 months. Then DD2 had to leave her property due to a flood and I’ve a pile of her stuff in the garage. More stuff ( even though I know it will eventually go)
Anyway I re-commenced the unpacking of the final 10 boxes…got about 5 to go and the aim is to do little and often ( aiming for venturing in at least once a day.
So in the last week I rehomed at least 30 empty packing boxes. Put a note on local Fb page and someone came that night to collect them. I’d thought to hang on to them incase I was ever brave enough to try and sell again. But then thought nah…I’ll just get new of that happens as it ain’t happening this year! So that made a big space where they had been.
Dropped off two bags of stuff at charity shop…my heart sank when there was a sign saying not taking any more donations but the lady must have seen my crestfallen face and took pity on me!
And another pile for charity shop started.
Any idea for a wedding dress? Obviously never going to wear it again! My girls don’t want it. Do I charity shop it or leave it for them to deal with in time?

When I had one to go I asked a few drama clubs, they snapped it up to use in a performance, perhaps that could be an option? That or charity shop for someone to grab a bargain and the dress to have another trip down the aisle.. ☺️
@mhagster Oxfam take wedding dresses and have an online boutique to sell them on. Mine fits in a small-ish box, so I have put it aside for a few years, as I am not really ready to part with it yet, but it is listed on eBay for a higher price than I anticipate getting in case anyone stumbles across it.

£1600+ made on vinted since 2023 ⚜ we could get better, because we're not dead yet - frank turner. ❧ ------------------------------------------------------------------------
First trolley and bag full of the day has been taken to the £2 charity shop. I called in at SA on the way home to do some printing. I am having a tea break now before going out again. I have packed a bag and my shopping trolley ready for off. I have a sore thumb - I caught it and broke the skin on the blister where I scalded it the other day.
Morning all. I can't keep up with the EDT - over 100 posts to catch up on since I last checked in on Friday.
Spent Saturday driving around collecting more kitchen handles and it seems like we now have all we need. Sunday was then spent packing up the kitchen and moving it all into various parts of the house. We set up the temporary kitchen in my office space ready for the next 6 weeks of work. While we packed things up, we managed to declutter a few small things and I think there will be more going once we move it all back in - I just didn't have the brain space to make many decisions:
94. white metal shelf 95. Broken mug 96. Broken plant pot 97 - 99. old dishes
And now the entire kitchen, floor, tiles, worktops, old oven, grill and dishwasher are now in the skip. How many items can I count that all for? 🤣🤣🤣
Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £
Working from home today and 4 dogs to walk during the day so I'll be busy but I am going to try and get the bathroom decluttered tonight when I'm home.
oceanspirit - Think of the difference at the end of the year when you add up all those small bits each day. I'm doing the same.
EcoIntent - I'd say that is a win win win! Well done on the sales.
Brambling - I am the same. Clothes everywhere that don't fit and I wear black leggings, t-shirts and hoodies constantly. Mainly due to the fact I'm just miserable about how I look. Filing is decluttering so well done on that. What book did you read?
sqwiffy - Sorry to hear your Mum's been so unwell. Glad she's home and happy birthday to her! Your head will be all over the place and you'll be exhausted. Please take care of yourself and declutter only when you can.
TC77 - Well done on trip to CS and decluttering of other items.
weenancyinAmerica - That is a lot! Try not to get too upset about it.
MrsSD - I fear I am better cheerleading than I am at decluttering.
Dizzycap - I love a list! That should keep you busy!
Florenceem - Happy the bag is on it's way out already.
jacwins - Well done on the decluttering. Ah the never ending toiletries - I'm having my own battle with them. I finally finished about 3 bottles at the same time and have the teeniest amount in another so I'll list them as a win today! Then on to the next haha!
mhagster - FB is great for that. When I tackle my big cupboard I'll get some stuff listed and hopefully it goes quick! With the wedding dress I donated mine to a charity that makes lovely little outfits for still born babies to be buried in. Can't remember the name but I just thought much better than keeping it forever in a wardrobe.
ruby_eskimo - Yeah so busy isn't it! I'd say a lot.
Second trip to the charity shop - done - so another bag and trolley full has left the house. Feels good to see stuff out. I was laying in bed thinking - I was going to try and sell craft bits but that will take time - do I want the hassle of sorting/photos/listing/wrapping/posting?
@sqwiffy We are all decluttering: stuff, relationships, tasks and chores, sentiments, aspirations, fantasy-selfs, inheritences, .... So, the discussions go all over the board (or train ). I feel inspired by everyone who is still determined to make a better, more manageable life for themselves despite what else is going on in their lives, whether it be non-co-operative partners or children, health problems, low energy, too many tasks that need to be done first, mental problems, major life events (whether fun or draining), etc.
A tip for you: if you are not using an item and it is blocking you from enjoying your life, it is already in landfill, just in the satellite location at 'your home'.

I really enjoy reading everyone's posts whether regarding decluttering or otherwise but I would say I do think @Vulpix has a particular way with words and look forward to her "stories".
Also I'm afraid I couldn't possibly go without the occasional pic of Fluffy and Fomo, speaking of which...any chance?
