I have deccluttered a lot this morning but i have a new to me book after taking part in the Christmas Book Swap on a SM site. It follows the Icelandic Christmas Eve tradition of The Book Flood. I can't pronounce the name, let alone spell it! It is the highlight of my Christmas, time to myself to read a book and eat chocolate.
Medication injection due this evening so the next few days will be spent with my trusty anti nausea bands firmly attached
@London_1 please may I book myself in for a visit next Christmas?
@Mrs_Salad_Dodger safe travels and I hope you and MrSDhave a lovely time (and the lurgy stays away)15 -
I went to stay with youngest & his wife in the home they're renovating, and after a smoked salmon & scrambled egg brunch and a walk in Sefton Park, Meg began prepping our meal (scallops & black pudding, roast beef & all the trimmings and Yule log) while Chris and I set the table & sorted drinks etc.Meg said to us "what's that fizzing noise?", stepped away and the ceiling above the hob & ovens fell down as we watched! 😳

Chris pulled down that loose bit & made their builder aware, (he's very apologetic) and luckily there seems to be no damage to the new units, hob & quartz worktops. I went into "mum" mode cleaning up while Meg sat down with a cup of tea!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Glad you were there to see it happening (would have been really puzzling to find the aftermath and wonder what on earth caused it) but very glad that no one was hurt

Gosh it was lucky no one was injured. I can remember when I was very small, a house we lived in the ceiling came down (partially due to bomb damage) circa 1947 I can still remember my Mother looking up and hearing this cracking sound and Mum grabbing me and us flying out of the sitting room into the hall and a dreadful loud sound as the ceiling came crashing down
The daft thing was, which my late Father found highly amusing, my late Mum had grabbed me in one hand, and in the other had on her way out grabbed her shopping bag as we had just returned from the shops where we had queued to get some stuff (still rationing in those days )
She had been so pleased to manage to get this huge cauliflower from the greengrocer. My father said "Only you could think of the bairn while also remembering the cauliflower"
My late Mum's reply was
"I had queued for it, and I wasn't going to lose it '
To this day 78 years later I still remember this when I see one of these huge cauli's you sometime see in the supermarkets
Bless her at least she grabbed me and the veg
Nice family day today DD and two of the boys went swimming at Ryde pool, then son-in-law and I and the other two met them down on the beach with the dogs
The four boys decided it was far too chilly for a walk, so they and I ajourned to the Ryde Castle pub, and DD and the dogs and her OH in tow walked the dogs along the windswept beach.
We all eventually got home and had a picky lunch of bits and cold cuts then DGS Ben and I sorted out what we would be planting when he arrives at half term in February. He dug a good bit of the veg part of the garden over. Then it really got too chilly out there to do much more, so indoors with hot chocolate, decluttered some warmed up mince pies and he and I started one of my jigsaws.
Tonight its a card playing evening again where no doubt some more of the remaiing sausage rolls will be eaten up and a beer or too taken by the boys .
I shall miss then when they go back just before New Year, as being young men they all have things lined up for Wednesday night. But its been a great week with them here and we have some friends coming to see the New Year in ,
Normality will reign once more and the start of a bit more decluttering
I have a tip run to do in the morning with Ben as there is lots of recycling to go from Christmas wrapping etc We did drop some empty bottles off at the bottle banks, but its mostly paper and cardboard tomorrow morning .
Then I am taking the four lads to a record fair tomorrow lunchtime in Ryde as they all like to buy vinyl records
I may even spring for lunch as they have all been so helpful and kind and I do like to treat them when they are here
Leg of lamb I can smell cooking, and we usually have dinner about 8 so it won't be long. My son-in-law is a
lovely cook, and that too will be decluttered as the boys all have good appetites
I hope everyone is enjoying the break from their normal routines
Cheers cums

TBH, I think we'd have preferred to find it in the morning, rather than have to forgo our scallop starter & red cabbage due to an unnaturally crunchy texture! 😂😂daisy_1571 said:Glad you were there to see it happening (would have been really puzzling to find the aftermath and wonder what on earth caused it) but very glad that no one was hurt

Good evening all. I didnt get round to posting while I was away but great to read of everyone's Christmas both now and in the past. @regnbue the snowman tale reminded me of a set of small polar bear candles which I purchased in a post Christmas sale near my parent's house some thirty plus years ago. I get them out every year but have never lit them and they always remind me of family Christmases in Norfolk. This year they are in my porch. Sox has been spoilt by DS2 whilst I was away but was pleased to see me today. I drove back this morning (about 2.25 hours) and there was a surprising amount of traffic especially around Nottinghamd and Sheffield. The weather was good which is always the main concern this time of year.
I arrived at DDs on Monday and we went to pantomime in Birmingham which was great. I went shopping with DD and we managed to drop a 4 pint plastic milk carton on kitchen floor when we got back which made a right mess. Nice to seen DGS1 and DGD1 both home from uni as was my daughter's other 'child' the horse. Lovely salmon for dinner Christmas Eve after very informal crib service at church. Presents Christmas morning then brisk walk round lanes with dog and horse. Christmas dinner joined by SonIL's family. Not too many items to bring home - some hand cream, nice soap, socks, jigsaw, jams, sweets, biscuits, chocolates etc. DD and family have given me a trip to Royal Albert Hall in February - I have never been there and it was on my bucket list. Lovely evening with extended SIL's family. Drove home this morning and spent day at DS2's with all four of his children which was nice. DS1 is coming tomorrow for the weekend so I get to see all three children and eight grandchildren. DS2 and family got me a Swarovski miniature poinsettia - he said I couldn't kill that.
Back to decluttering for real next week.

@GrannyKate funnily enough my snowman is a Norfolk boy himself having been "born" here and spent all his life here. Maybe cute candles are a speciality of the area
