2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD - The Joy of Decluttering

Hi all, had a reasonable day yesterday. The porch was cleaned up and the plants that go outside for the summer were brought back in. The money plant needs repotting but it can wait until I find a suitable pot the right size. The bags of plaster have been moved to the porch, not technically out out but out of the hallway and if the builder doesn't use them or take them away when the kitchen gets done I will take them to the tip but that won't happen until next year. A box of car stuff has been put in the car, it was removed when I was taking wood to the tip but I wasn't sure if I had finished the tip runs so it wasn't put back. Little sort out in the kitchen and a cream tea thing was decluttered. The lr bin and bedroom recycling emptied, a cardboard box recycled, 1 LDFPA, 3 pens that only worked intermittently and were driving me mad were binned and a union thing was finished. 200 emails deleted. 
Footy last night so I was home late so a bit tired today but I have a list to do so better get weaving soon 😁

@Vulpix glad you have been reassured you are not a time waster, as if that could ever happen. Not nice procedures, had a couple of similar but as you say survivable 😁. Glad you are enjoying your new house 😁

Just caught up reading the thread.  Loving your knitted hats, Mrs SD.  And love your Christmas tree, purplevamp.

Nothing much happening here - trying to keep on top of day to day chores and admin is taking up my limited energy.  More hospital tests coming up and I have to hope we’re getting close to a diagnosis as this has been going on for 4 years now.

The reading pile has grown slightly and emails back up to 145.  Not as bad as the 400 earlier in the year so am ok with it.

We moved my adult step son down a floor from the second floor to the first floor a little while ago. The radiator is under the window so he was tucking the curtains onto the window ledge each night. He said he wanted blinds. So I got some fabric from eBay and made a roman blind. He likes yellow so we went for a rather jaunty yellow pattern. Its supposed to be the other way round but I couldn’t face trying to join two pieces to make it wide enough so it’s the other way.

I had pretty much everything I needed for the blind in the garage so decluttered a load of stuff into the blind. Just need a batten for the bottom and it’s finished. I have hung it anyway so may never get round to the batten. 

Fitting it was interesting as the reveal above the window is banana shaped and much lower in the middle than the edges.

@Green_hopeful I love the blind and looks good that way round. So impressed by people who can just do these things.

I did manage to sew up a draught excluder, dropped off things at the donation hub (electric blanket and other winter type things) ,some rubbish out at lunch time. Before I went away DD1 took a coat, scarf and few other things (and the cats and their belongings but these have come back).

Heating engineer sorted heating, had wanted to sleep in airing cupboard room as warmest (not working in my bedroom) had single mattress not disposed of yet and made cosy only to find battery in carbon monoxide monitor given up so beeping every 30 seconds. can't replace batteries so that is out and bedroom radiators working.

Skirt in CS bag, travels always focus my mind that I need clothes I am happy to wear day in and day out (washing now and again). 

May also be decluttering work , as came back to launch of restructuring so debating VR or maybe stay for CR.... alot to mull over.

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
2. Concerted effort to sort out sleep patterns - Realistic targets: bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 10:00 a.m 
3. Continue dealing with mail & email on a daily basis
4. Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
5. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
6. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed

Thursday is a dull overcast day & rained overnight & early a.m. Forecast high of 9°C (feeling 5°C colder) & low of 4°C with more on & off rain throughout the day. DH stayed up all night watching Test cricket. I was up 10:30. I have wrapped the boxes of biscuits & Turkish Delight for DH & DSis. DH had a couple of hours sleep & he & DSis have just gone shopping (14:00) will do a bit of cheerleading then start writing Christmas cards. Cheerleading starting from Tuesday’s posts:

The mill shop had sold out of the ticking stripe fabric that I wanted. Never mind, no rush.

More coming in here atm. I am buying a few second hand bits to decorate the house. A big plant, a plant stand, a mirror. I have got mirrors tbh but not the right size. When all the pictures and mirrors are up, I will have a cull of the unused things.

 Mr V has mended the butlers tray, I would like to put it in the little porch if it will fit, to put a little Christmas tree on. It's just patio doors as the front door is recessed about 18 " back, not an actual useful porch.

Mr V has also sanded a little wooden stool. I will varnish it tonight. Another couple of coats tomorrow and that is another tin used up.

Don't folk have their Christmas decorations up early these days? We have seen Purplevamps lovely tree. Can we see more? I love Christmas decorations. More is more for me.

@vulpix i am thinking of relining our kitchen curtains because they are pretty manky (the cats seem to brush against them all the time and they have got marked) but they are huge and I can’t face making them from scratch again. I hope i can take them down and sew a new lining over the top. I am hoping to find some pink ticking. I have just ordered a sample from Just Fabrics. Not a lot of decluttering going on here.  but I did manage to declutter lots of veg to make fridge bottom soup, 2 very over-ripe bananas turned into 2 banana and ginger cakes (one in the freezer), sadly a dragon fruit had to go in the food waste bin as it fell in half when I picked it up.  I've never had one before and was given this but didn't get round to it.  Two packs to salsa from **cough cough** 2017 binned. And one pen that stopped working in the bin.

Presents are all wrapped and hiding until later to stop sticky beaks!

@Liverpool_Anne - sounds like we share the same DH.  Mine has his work stuff everywhere, one reason we want to move.

@vulpix Sorry about your pharmacy experience.  Have you thought about using an online one?  I do and my meds get delivered straight to my door, they also send reminders.  I know we should all try to support our local shops but sometimes it's not possible.

Another quiet day here. 

The box of gifts to go to mums was collected this. morning, we’re very lucky as we have such a good chap as our postie.
Decluttered a shoulder of pork from freezer yesterday, has been in the slow cooker all day for pulled pork. 

The legs of lamb went in the freezer easily as we have made room by using stuff.
DFriend took 2 bags of stuff to CS for me.
All Christmas cards written. All for posting have a stamp on and DH will post tomorrow. Did have to declutter some cash to go in cards for 2 recipients. Only thing left is to hand deliver neighbour cards. 

Even put the excess cards back in a much emptier Christmas box and the Christmas box is back in the airing cupboard.

Dinner today was Pantry shelves for me and freezer for DH.

Two books read and lined up to go out but not gone yet. I have got my Christmas decs up apart from window clings - I want good light for that.

This is a studio flat so I've only a little artificial tree but I've decorated the plants too, including the tomato/triffid. If you look closely about halfway down on the right you'll see this daft thing is still trying to grow a tomato. I have panettone in the big tin and chocolate in the chocolate one. The third tin is for mince pies but I don't have any yet. 

This is the actual tree. Mr Snowman always goes on the top. The paper fans are there to hide the stand - they'll be removed as I get presents and cards to put under the tree.
