  • YBS First Home eSaver 4.7%A, £500 a month, 2 years

Does anyone know if YBS do any checks on being a first home buyer ?  Or any other non-compliance ?

In the product details there is the following sentence :

'If you're not saving for your first home, we can transfer your money to an online easy access savings account.'

which I take to be a possible severe consequence should anyone not comply.

They did not appear to do so for me.

I’ve opened a Progressive rainy day saver, and as part of the opening process I funded the account via debit card transfer, or so I thought. This was at 10am this morning and the funds still haven’t transferred in.

I guess I’ll wait until tomorrow and follow up.
Not specific to Progressive but debit card deposits will generally take 2 or 3 working days to credit an account.

    Nationwide RS
Might need to free up some funds by end of month, my Nationwide RS is due to mature next month so i was going to refresh it.
Is it usually the day after closure request that a new RS can be opened?
Not for me it wasn't. Mine had already been converted to an Instant Access Saver 10 when I got this

I had this on the day the account was converted, but was able to open the new one next day.
  • Scottish Building Society: Managing your savings account

Paying money into your savings account

You can make deposits into your savings account in any of our Relationship Centres by cash or cheque, by post (cheques only), by electronic transfer from your nominated UK bank account . You can also pay money in using an eligible debit card. Please note debit card payments are capped at £1,000.

Can anyone shed light on what is "an eligible debit card" mean please? Thanks.

I think it means a debit card that has your name on it and the card is not expired.

    Principality BS

I decided to record step-by-step what I always done with renewing accounts. Never had a rejection yet (5x successful renewals so far with this one pending) and I always done the same. Never had an automated sent message created as well. This was all done at around 6:00 PM on Monday 13/10/2025 using a laptop.

    3. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1S31k9AsxFeRUKIRCx246hAbA0jLvGF-b/view - select 6 Month Regular Saver and enter £200.00.
    4. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bhQP7BCfpszak6WKZPm2AnFFzPKou6xz/view - I actually click on "View Summary Box" before clicking "Continue".
    6. https://drive.google.com/file/d/14_lbhRWeJZL-KS_1G1FCcjunP0PgzfHs/view - select "By electronic transfer" and enter details of my external account. Leave "Reference" empty.
    10. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_7xk9E43R26MAUmi_joi6hWhuY9Zfhxc/view - account now shows confirmed maturity instructions.

As mentioned - this approach is yet to fail me but, obviously, your experience may vary. :D Was not wearing a green shirt.
    ... and picture 1. answers anyone's questions about 13th payments :)

Having a quick trawl through this thread, I see people mentioning that they've picked option 2 but been refused. And others who picked option 4 and were successful. So maybe we'll never get to the bottom of it, and just have to accept whatever fate befalls us.

    Thank you for your reply.
I'll look into this one now. Hopefully, if challenged, it will be early in the term and I could use arguments like 'saving for my first home in Wales' or '...independent of my wife'. The rate offered is nothing special and right at my lower limit.

  • The brief initial discussion about the Edge saver wasn't too much of a problem, it was the bickering that followed. Anyway, draw a line under it and get back on topic.

Just made a first deposit into the Manchester regular saver, and got a text about an hour later saying they'd received my deposit. Nice touch - saves me from obsessively checking my account so often. So thumbs up for Manchester.

I haven't seen mention of the Scottish Building Society regular saver being made available online yet. To me the hassle of a postal application wasn't worth it, but if I can apply online it'll be worth having. Not having had experience with Scottish before (hadn't even heard of them to be honest) I've no clue as to how long this account will be available for. As with other smaller providers, they might only offer it for a short time then close it when they've got enough funds, and as it's ranked pretty highly on moneyfactscompare they might get more applications than expected.

Anyway, I'm in no rush to open it, as I'd have to siphon off some funds from elsewhere, but once it's available I suspect it might be a case of "grab it before it disappears".
