The Old Regular Savers Discussion Thread 28/12/24-29/1/26

  • Does anyone know when Vernon last offered a non-postcode-restricted RS to existing customers? I've been with them for quite a while in the hope of something eventually popping up.
Their existing Online Regular Saver at 6.5% is available to existing members who've been a member constantly since prior to 1/5/24.
It also seems to be 5.75%
You are quite correct, I seem to be going round the twist.
    Re: Vernon
That Online RS was, at launch, available to existing members AND locals, but soon went locals only
The summary box still stated 1/5/24 when this thread was launched but you're correct, the term appears to've now been dropped.
  • Just submitted my maturity instructions for my Principality 6 month ending on 30th November, option 2, £200 into a "new" Issue 4.

Hopefully that will go ahead like my previous instruction.

Next go for yet another issue 4 is for an account ending on 10th December

This might be useful to anyone who is holding:
Around 7-10 days before your old RS matures, the system will allow you to open a New RS without any issues.
Mine was due to mature on 6th December and I opened a new RS on the 28th November which was fully funded from my TSB current account on the 29th. I then subsequently changed the automatic set-up monthly deposit date to the beginning of the December onwards, also without issue.

Looks like this early opening method is no longer possible, I've been trying to do this over the last few days (within the 7-10 days as mentioned above) and it just keeps stating that I can't open it as I already have one.
I'd keep retrying around 6-7 days as I've found it has varied from year to year. This year it was 10 days for me, the year before before 6 days before maturity of old RS. I always managed to open my new RS early via APP, if that's any help ;) Also, make sure the TSB App is up to date ;)
    TSB Monthly Savings Account

FWIW, I've just tried this 'early opening' method nine days before maturity and it won't let me open a new one... Will try again in a few days' time and report back here IF successful.

I will also try opening another TSB RS early again this year; maturity for the present 6% RS is on the 27th, not that the new 5% interest rate for the the present TSB RS is enticing to me personally, but just to see if they've closed the loophole.

I've tried this twice a couple of years ago. TSB do enforce the 12 month rule, you have to wait until anniversary.

They certainly didn't for me for the past couple of years. I was able to open another TSB RS at least 5-6 days before the old one reached maturity, which is why mine matures on the 27th of November this year and not early December as per last.

Melton have now added instructions to pay according to the new account number format: https://www.themelton.co.uk/savings_information/paying-in-to-your-account/

Both the old details and the new adjusted details fail COP when trying to add to a new account.

Last month’s payment displayed differently (presumably as it had been redirected as it arrived using the old style reference.)

If that's the case, I'm expecting an email from them. Otherwise, all payments in their accounts are going to have to be redirected.
  • I could never get the Melton COP to be a match with any of my current accounts, and then they closed my account because it wasn't funded. Their website says there still are no online accounts available, this has been the case since the end of September!
