Money Moral Dilemma: Should we give my in-laws the flight cancellation compensation we claimed?

I'm sorry but no. They couldn't be bothered to apply for compensation, so are happy to give up £1,000, but they want to have yours? Had they also applied for compensation, I'd say yes, you should offer it to them - though I think they should refuse as it's compensation for time and inconvenience. But the fact they haven't bothered claiming is just odd so keep it0

Once again (it's usually every Wednesday when the MSE weekly email comes out), I'm astonished that the originator of this MMD even needs to ask this question.
So mean-spirited.1 -
Definitely. They paid and treated you. They should receive the money .0

They paid for the holiday they deserve the compensation. I would automatically have given it to them as a thank you for a free holiday. Don’t think you will be getting another one1
-
Yes of course!Though you could suggest they treat you to a meal or similar for the time spent doing the work to reclaim the money,.You'll probably benefit more in the long run from the goodwill, baby siting and future holidays.0

they PAID for the holiday. compensation is for delays for each person, not for whoever happens to claim it. Give them what is due to them.0
-
I consider myself 100% honest, but if someone ‘can’t be bothered’ then it’s questionable whether they deserve anything from the person who could be bothered.0
-
Of course you should give it to the in-laws. OK you put in the work to get the compensation, but you got a free holiday (even if it was a bit shorter than expected). Pay up!!0

Why not agree its only gonna cause arguments which i am sure you dont want and put it all in a trust account for the kids.
Most Parents and G-Parents want to help the kids if they can afford too so you all gain nothing but the piece of mind that you will aid the kids future.

There is no 'dilemma' - of course you should pass it on to them with grateful thanks for their kind generosity is paying for the entire "lovely family holiday".0
