I'm worried they are thinking I tried to con them, its my local shop and I would hate for them to think that. On my phone I picked the wrong bank card with only £8 on it. My vodka and coke was £26 and when I clicked it and it pinged on their machine. All pleasantries in conversation then I left. I went back just now and he told me the payment didn't go through, He was polite and no other people was around, I was just embarrassed because I'm not a dishonest person, I paid for my new bottle of vodka and the other bottle of vodka I had yesterday with lots of apologies. Does this sound like the shopkeeper thinks I was being dishonest? Am I overthinking this?

Focus more on your health and the volume of vodka here.

My friends son is remarkably forgetful and twice he has filled his car with petrol at the local pumps, and simply driven off without paying.  You'd've thought he'd learn after the first time, as he incurred a £25 admin charge when he received a letter about it with proof.  But no, did exactly the same thing a few months later, and again another additional 'admin' charge.  No doubt it will happen again, too.

You didn’t need to tell us it was vodka, so the fact you did tells us you’re concerned about your drinking. There’s lots of support out there if you need it.

As above - don't worry about the payment issue.  That's explained and resolved.  But do follow up on the drinking and well done for effectively declaring that as a problem.

Declined transactions happen all the time.
    Simply forget about it..

As to the drive off without paying. They are lucky that garage did not call police to deal.
