Absolutely, there are still threads being started on various boards from people saying this will destroy their 'businesses' and won't bother reading the announcement to see why people keep telling them it only currently affects private accounts.RFW said:
I may well be wrong but I assumed sold price searching was meant as a guide to buyers, although sellers use it. So if it is the former it will show the price the item sold for. I don't think it's a terrible system moving forward. This forum is littered with people saying they didn't realise they'd be charged so much for selling an item. As we've seen already, people will still manage to confuse themselves, no matter what they do!martindow said:GadgetGuru said:I guess you still need to have an idea of the total price with the buyers fee, as it could make something that you've listed at a competitive price, not very competitive at all from the buyer's perspective once the fee is taken into account. Only way round that would be to drop your selling price a little. It could be the difference to getting the item sold.....I suppose as you are not going to be paying a listing fee there is nothing lost. If it doesn't sell you can relist at a lower price if you wish.In the future, if you are looking at sold prices to determine the value, I wonder if those will show the price the seller received or the gross price paid by the buyer?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Quite honestly if they're going to needlessly close their business because they can't be bothered to read an announcement and are too stubborn to listen to anyone who has read the info, maybe they weren't the type of person who ought to be running a business selling on eBay anyway. I'd certainly rather not buy from someone who doesn't know how the platform they've chosen to use works and stubbornly refuses to listen, in case I have to try to deal with them if something goes wrong!soolin said:

Its not the buyer fee's that bothers me, it's more what this thread was originally about - holding the sale amount until 2 days after delivery. It just doesnt sit right with me.1

It's not dissimilar to Vinted.GadgetGuru said:Its not the buyer fee's that bothers me, it's more what this thread was originally about - holding the sale amount until 2 days after delivery. It just doesnt sit right with me.
The seller doesn't get their money until the item has been delivered/collected - and checked.
A Vinted item I bought was at my pick-up point on Wednesday.
I couldn't get to pick it up so I collected it yesterday on my way out to meet friends.
I didn't check the item until this morning when I accepted the item.
So that was 2 days after delivery.
As a private seller just clearing out my unwanted stuff, I'm happy to have a platform to sell my items.

A lot of the threads have got rather hijacked and wandered off topic, I wonder if it is worth a new thread ready for the 4th with the announcement at top and people being able to add their own experiences of the hold going forward? What services track better than others for instance.GadgetGuru said:Its not the buyer fee's that bothers me, it's more what this thread was originally about - holding the sale amount until 2 days after delivery. If users would welcome that, I'll start a dedicated 'experience' thread later this evening or tomorrow.
As for the hold it has been said before, but for anyone who sells on most other sites, or sold on ebay back in the early days, waiting for money has been the usual case. Immediate payment before the item is even sent is very unusual.
I don't plan to change my posting habits at all, where I use RM48 now I shall continue to do so, and likewise for standard parcels and large letters. Yes the first couple of weeks for regular sellers might be a little difficult, but for anyone selling a few bits regularly the turn over of money coming in will still be there as you will always be able to draw money from previous sales. Private sellers are after all only selling unwanted things, so there isn't the urgency that perhaps some business have, especially if the alternative is to donate items to charity and get nothing at all for them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How does this new policy work for cash on collection sales, or bank transfers?I've sell most of my stuff cash only as a private seller. Most people have to pay with a credit card or from balance once the auction is won / with BIN, to finalize the transaction, at which point I just refund the money and send a polite note informing them of the cash requirement. Ebay stopped being picky about cash sales after they were forced to drop the paypal connection. If ebay is going to hold the buyers money then I won't be able to refund it.And there's no way ebay can enforce the new charges if I accept cash either. I can just ask for less on collection and offer a discount as these new fees are added on at checkout for the buyer, not the seller.Once the buyer collects I've always just marked the item as paid and that's the end of the matter. This wasn't a problem in the past as it was (me) the seller that paid the fees, so I had to pay them no matter how the item was paid for.Difficult to see how ebay are going to get their 'cut' with cash sales.

I believe cash on collection is against eBay’s T&Cs now (apart from motors).fiscoking said:How does this new policy work for cash on collection sales, or bank transfers?I've sell most of my stuff cash only as a private seller. Most people have to pay with a credit card or from balance once the auction is won / with BIN, to finalize the transaction, at which point I just refund the money and send a polite note informing them of the cash requirement. Hasn't it been like that for a few years now? I used to do a lot of cash on collection stuff but it gradually phased out of my business model, largely coinciding with when Ebay changed the rules.fiscoking said:noitsnotme said:I believe cash on collection is against eBay’s T&Cs now (apart from motors).
