Thanks Lucielle, Jwil, Blackcats and Beanie
Well the holiday and funeral are now over. So now I need to try and catch up on sleep, regain some energy and set me home and garden back to rights - which feel veritable mountains just by themselves. I still need to resolve the vet bill and insurance claim - everything has just felt too much. I managed to get a sick note before I went away so have some time to grieve and heal and hopefully get some focus and concentration back.
I got a handwritten note of thanks and effectively a reference today from the most senior person in the organisation that I recently transferred away from - which blessed my soul. I plan to photograph it and re-read it when I doubt myself.
I may be going abroad this year for a close family member wedding... which will be a further stretching of my comfort zone. I've asked to travel with other family - so hopefully that will work out... but it means I have a load of unforeseen costs etc too. (Being cagey on here as not all the wider family know yet - and I don't totally trust in my anonymity and I only found out the day of the funeral). That gives me something concrete to look forward too (although I'm also nervous) and there will be lots of life admin related to that too - flights, visa, hotels etc. Doubly glad now that I upgraded my travel insurance just before I took the Italy trip. Could be a week long trip... Given how long the flights are that is probably just as well.
I went clothes shopping today - as I've not got long to plan or get organised. I found a charity based outlet that sells reduced priced new designer dresses - and I got a dress that had been £160 for under £30 a Ph*** 8 red long dress which made me very happy. In theory I'll try and lose weight between now and the wedding but it's a matter of weeks rather than months away so may not be practical. I already have another dress (deep purple) I feel confident in as a back up - plus some items I bought for my recent holiday. So hopefully I won't feel the need to go on too much of a spending spree. Potential flight and hotels and gift will cost enough!! I wore a pair of D*ne shoes to the funeral which were nice enough for smart shoes (but still uncomfortable after a while) - but if I could get some to match the dress that would be even better. I have some DK*Y sandals I bought last year - black and cream - I need to do something about the upper sole as it creased and therefore felt slightly uncomfortable... I have very wide feet though so getting any new shoes to fit is a huge challenge!! Next I'm looking for a see through wrap and possibly an evening bag...
Meanwhile I've just put on my first load of washing since my return home. I've done the dishwasher and a tiny bit of weeding. Everything else is still to do.
I updated my money on my return home - but now need to update today's spends too.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

If the thank you / reference note is literally handwritten, why not literally frame it and put it on the wall of your office? I would be tempted to. 😊I found the vets very helpful when I was doing my claim, I paid an admin fee (£28 I think) and they did it all for me.Just take one step at a time with the house and the garden. There’s no great rush. Could a gardener or cleaner help at all?The wedding sounds fun 😊 Hope all the travel arrangements come together easily and you have an amazing time 😊
All sounds a bit hectic though. Do you have any sessions planned with your counsellor to help you process it?KKAs at 15.07.25:

- OPs to mortgage = £11,816 Interest saved £5,28 to date

The wedding sounds fun, I hope you will enjoy although i admit I might wince a little at the extra costs if it were me.
Good luck getting back to order, and, I thought the same as KK, maybe frame the handwritten note for the office wall as a visual reminder?Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -
Hugs @savingholmes and welcome back. That note sounds fantastic, deffo agree with framing. Wedding sounds good if you get enough time to be alone if you'd like that. Would you mind sharing name of charity shop, asterisked if necessary? Love Humdinger xx1

Thanks Jwil, KK and Watty - I will give serious consideration to framing the letter - thank you.
Since moving in an ugly caravan had blocked the view to one side - but the neighbour has now sold it and my front garden now looks so much better. They are thinking of adding a trellis on top of the shortish fence which I've said is fine.
I picked up some groceries yesterday - so now have fruit and salad and other essentials available to me. I've also bought some emergency water to store in the garage. I want to put some fresh food out for the birds too - they ignored the seed feeders so I put out so want to put out more coconut suet feeders and mealworms.
I need to continue sorting out my home and garden - but may go to an outlet village and see if I can find anything else for the wedding.
I also need to get back to the painting course I abandoned over the last couple of months... I may try and go to a monthly portrait group that's on tomorrow evening too.
Hope all is well where you are - and I will aim to gradually catch up on diaries - or just jump in at the end and go from there... Going to have a late breakfast now.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
